The Benefits OF IoT in the Middle of the COVID-19 Pandemic Situation

A. INTRODUCTION
At most of the times, internet is said as one of the most helpful invention ever created by human.
The internet itself develops and getting known by more and more people. People used to utilize
the internet in the computer only and not many of them using internet that often. However, the
human needs are getting arise and the internet keeps on developing and provides lots of service.
The internet has become a primary need in their daily basis. People are using internet every
time, everywhere in their lives. They can use it in either smartphone, tablet, or even a
wristwatch. The appearance of internet made everything much more convenient.
Moreover, the world is now facing the COVID-19 pandemic situation. This condition has
started to occurring in 2019, which the humans are obliged to keep their distance towards each
other and requires most of their activities are worked from home. These rules are intended to
prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease. In order to connect the people, the internet
contributes its roles a lot and giving so much benefits to human lives. The benefit of the internet
itself comes from many sectors, such as health, education, or even economics.
B. DISCUSSION
I. Economic Sector
This pandemic situation is widely known for affecting the country’s economic growth
potential. This situation makes it even weaker. In some cases, many company loses their
profit—which leads into the reduction of the employee numbers, and people loss their jobs due
to that.
This is the moment where internet take its lead to help people. As the internet keeps on
developing, it provides so many facilities for the human to create a new job vacancy. For
example, people might could open an online store at some e-commerce platform. It will reach
more people out and connect them to the seller through the internet without having to go to
store directly. It is known as the most effective ways to prevent the spread of the virus, yet the
small and medium enterprises could contribute in the nation’s economy growth.
II. Health Sector
COVID-19 disease of course related to the health sector a lot. This situation requires people
who affected by the virus to get some specific treatment from a certain hospital. And how about
the people who’s not affected by the virus but still sick and needs help? It’s impossible for
them to go to the hospital immediately, since the virus itself is known as airborne (spread
through the air, direct contact, etc.).
The internet itself gave us so much benefits in this sector. For example, Google, they
provide a lot of information about medicines, some tips on how to live a healthy lifestyle, how
to prevent the contamination of the corona virus, and many others. The internet is also making
a platform to educate and influence people about the virus. So, the spread could be reduced,
too. The appearance of internet is also makes it possible for us to get a health consultation
online.
III. Education Sector
Apparently, this pandemic situation not only affecting the economic and health sector only.
The education sector is also getting an impact from this, too. The school are required to make
a new regulation from the government, such as changing all the learning activities from home,
or a hybrid learning so that the class won’t be as crowded.
However, the challenge of having a class during this pandemic isn’t as easy as it seems.
The learning method itself must be held effectively to optimize the education, just like before
the pandemic starts. And in this condition, the internet has also given so much advantages to
make everything easier. For example, there are a technology called ‘Smart Classroom”, which
creates an interactive classroom to simplify a difficult concept for the student to visualize
without the assistance of technology. Hence, it would increase the students’ academic
performance.
C. CONCLUSION
COVID-19 has considered as a global threat. This COVID-19 pandemic condition has
given its impact to the humanities so much, both the negative and positive one. Many people
considered that this pandemic trapped them in hard times. Some of our activities are maybe
constrained or even postponed, but the existence of the internet has made everything much
easier. We are now able to connect with people without having to meet them directly thanks to
the advance in technology. And the good news is that the pandemic gave us the chance to learn
more things through the internet. We can learn about how to anticipate the virus, which can
reduce the amount of people infected by the virus itself.
