Course Routine in Araling Panlipunan 8 – World History

Name: Chandler Kendrick M. Roberts Date Submitted: November 8, 2022

Grade and Section: 8 – Bl. Pacifico of Valencia Teacher: Mr. Angelo Ma. Roman V. Gonzales

A. Title of the News: Pentagon: A North Korea nuclear attack would ‘result in the end of the Kim
regime’
B. Origin of the News: North Korea

C. Date of the News: November 3, 2022

D. Three (3) key information about the News (What is the news all about?)

Key Information #1: The statement came hours after Pyongyang tested a new intercontinental
ballistic missile, escalating tensions in the region once more. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said
during a meeting with his South Korean counterpart Thursday that any North Korean nuclear attack
against the United States or others would "result in the end of the Kim regime."

According to a joint statement issued by the Defense Department and the Pentagon, Austin told Lee
Jong-sup that "any nuclear assault against the United States or its Allies and allies, including the use
of non-strategic nuclear weapons, is unacceptable and will result in the end of the Kim dictatorship."

Similar language was used by the administration in its National Defense Strategy, which the
Pentagon unveiled last week.

After the meeting, Austin and Lee both expressed their concern about Pyongyang's recent missile
launches to media.

Key Information #2: The Pentagon does not currently have any plans to adjust its posture in the
region, Austin said, adding that the tests are "destabilizing to the region" and urging Pyongyang to
"stop that type of behavior and to begin to engage in genuine engagement."

The conference takes place as Pyongyang keeps up a multi-day bombardment of missile launches
that infuriates its Pacific neighbors. A failed intercontinental ballistic missile appears to be part of the
latest set of testing, which took place on Thursday AM local time. The missile was first expected to
go over Japan, but Tokyo's defense ministry later declared that had not happened. The missile,
which was launched in March and flew over 1,000 miles, traveled just approximately 466 miles
before crashing into the Sea of Japan.

The North Korean missile launches on Wednesday set a daily record with 23, prompting swift
condemnation from Washington, Seoul, and Tokyo. The tests on Thursday happened the following
day.

Key Information #3: Within hours of the most recent test, the United States and South Korea
declared they would prolong an air force exercise that was originally planned to go this week from
Monday through Friday. According to South Korea's air force, the drill was prolonged "in light of the
North's recent provocations."

Pyongyang is upset about the long-planned drills and has labeled them a provocation.

Approximately 240 American aircraft are participating in the Vigilant Storm exercise. Army, Navy, Air
Force, Marine Corps, and South Korean fighters. This year's annual celebration will feature the most
sorties ever, 1,600, according to the armies.

E. Brief Personal Insight / Reflection about the News:

(What have you learned from the news as a: (1) student; (2) member of my family/community; and (3) Filipino?)

As a student, I have learned that we should not cause even harm to anyone because it won't do us
any good.

As a member of my community, I have learned that we should not harm our neighbors so that we
build a better community.

And as a Filipino, I have learned that we should all work together to have a better world to live in.
F. Challenge Question:

What do you think will happen if North Korea won't stop what it is doing?
