PART 1
INTRODUCTION
This course will help the students to understand the systematic approach to performance
improvement through an on-going process of establishing performance objectives, measuring
performance; collecting, analyzing, reviewing and reporting performance data and establish
the link between reward system & career development.

COURSE OBJECTIVES (CO)


The course aims at providing insights into:

 Understanding the meaning of performance management system

 Setting of performance objective, measuring performance on set objectives

 Analysing and reviewing performance, giving performance feed back

 Linking performance with reward system

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLO)


At the end of this course, students would be able to:

CLO1 - (Map with PLO1): Understand the overall conceptual framework of performance
management system (PMS) and its function

CLO2 - (Map with PLO2): Understanding the issues related to subjectivity in measuring of
employee performance, importance of defining KPA and KRA and use of appropriate methods
to measure the employee performance objectively.

CLO3 - (Map with PLO3): Analysing the performance results, identification of strength and
weakness of the individual employee, prepare the developmental plan and rationale for
providing rewards and recognitions.

CLO 4 - (Map with PLO4): Conducting performance review meeting through effective
communication, understanding the professional communication process that are required for
counselling, coaching and mentoring
CLO 5 - (Map with PLO5): Understanding the ethics of performance management system

CLO 6 - (Map with PLO6): Developing the insight to utilize performance evaluation data for
taking business decisions related to long-term training programme and effective planning of
future human resource.

PRESCRIBED TEXT BOOK


The textbook forms the basic reading material for the course. In addition, the participants are also
supposed to go through the readings recommended in the course outline. Course participants are
also required to regularly go through academic journals, business magazines and websites. Cases
will be discussed during the course.

PART 3: SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

Project Details:

Project will be conducted in groups. Each group has to select a company of their own choice.
There are two objectives of the project:

I. On the basis of the available data on PMS, group has to prepare a report about the performance
management system of that company
II. Group has to suggest an alternate but equally or more efficient PMS for the same company
with full justifications
III. Comparative analysis should be incorporated in the project report
