I. OBJECTIVES
1. Recognize expressions used in comparing and contrasting topics/subjects;
2. Identify different multimodal texts; and
3. Compare and contrast the presentation of the same topic in different multimodal texts.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Comparing and Contrasting Different Multimodal Texts
References: DepEd TV
Skills to be developed: Creativity, critical thinking, analyzing
Materials: Laptop, television

III. LEARNING PROCEDURE


A. Preparation
1. Prayer and Greetings
2. Attendance and Classroom Management
3. Checking of Assignments

B. Motivation
A. The teacher will show two different pictures.
B. The students will compare and contrast the two pictures.

C. Presentation of the Objectives


1. The teacher will present the objectives of the lesson and let the students read them.
a. Recognize expressions used in comparing and contrasting topics/subjects;
b. Identify different multimodal texts; and
c. Compare and contrast the presentation of the same topic in different
multimodal texts.

IV. PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON


A. Activity
a. The students will identify whether the statement is used to compare or contrast.
1. Regular cardio exercise does wonder for your overall heart health. Likewise, it
contributes to the betterment of your mental health.
2. Listening to your sibling and adjusting your behavior to address his/her concerns can
help you both in growing up. In the same way, giving and taking favors to and from each
would make your relationship even stronger.
3. Followers of Islam believe that there is only one God in existence. In like manner,
Christianity is also a monotheistic religion.
4. India is an undeniably beautiful country with a rich heritage and vibrant culture.
Nevertheless, the country’s reputation has been tarnished over the years due to its
rampant corruption problems.
5. People of the Christian faith strongly believe in the afterlife while Hindus and
Buddhists preach the concept of reincarnation and nirvana.
6. Everyone expects life to go smoothly all the time but it is filled with constant ups and
downs.

B. Analysis
1. Using the sentences text from the activity, the teacher will ask the following questions
and discuss the answers to the learners.
a. How would you know if someone is comparing things?
b. How would you know if someone is contrasting things?
c. Do you enjoy reading magazines, posters, comic strips, memes and the like?
Why or why not?

C. Abstraction
1. The teacher will discuss about linking expressions or signal words used to compare
and contrast things or ideas and the multimodal texts.
2. The students will watch the instructional videos prepared by the teacher.
2. The teacher will explain further and provide information from the videos watched.
D. Application
A. The students will identify the opinion-marking signals used in the sentences.
1. Many believe that Corona virus is not heat resistant.
2. Many scientists says that COVID-19 can stay on your belongings for a few
hours.
3. China claims that at present, they have zero COVID-19 cases.
4. People think that China has new reported cases.
5. He argues that there are more reported cases of COVID-19 in urban areas.
V. EVALUATION
A. The students will compare and contrast multimodal texts with one theme or subject.
B. The students will complete the table showing their differences and similarities using the
linking expressions and signal words provided.
