Software License Authentication Instructions


1. Introduction
To use LabSolutions, license authentication is required.
You can activate or deactivate a software license by accessing the Shimadzu Software License Management System from
your web browser.
<Note> The computer where LabSolutions is installed does not need to be connected to the network.

The following illustrates the procedure to activate a license.

You can use the same procedure to deactivate a license.


Using the Shimadzu Software License Management System, you can view the usage status of your licenses, which
allows you to be aware of installed licenses, manage licenses for each department, and optimize the number of licenses
according to the increase and decrease of devices and users.

To activate or deactivate your licenses, you must register an account on the Shimadzu Software License Management
System.
Register an account on the Shimadzu Software License Management System using the following procedure.

Account for the Shimadzu Software License Management System


• You must register an e-mail address to create an account. Appoint a license administrator in your department and
create an account for the administrator to collectively manage licenses in your department.
• Authenticated licenses can be transferred to different accounts within the same company. You can also create a
temporary account from which you can consolidate licenses to the administrator after authenticating them.
• If you have difficulty appointing a license administrator, create an account using a group e-mail address.
Even in this case, register the name of a representative.

2. Creating a User Account
To activate or deactivate a license, you must log in to the Shimadzu Software License Management System.
Create an account for the Shimadzu Software License Management System using the following procedure.
A license certificate is also required to create an account. Have your license certificate in hand.

Step 1. Launch your web browser and access the Shimadzu Software License Management System
(https://activate.an.shimadzu.co.jp ).

Step 2. On the login window, click [create account].

Step 3. Enter [E-mail address], [Confirm e-mail address], and the character string from [Authentication image].

Step 4. Click [licensing and privacy policy, and consent to exchange and transfer personal data] and confirm the details.
Check [Agree to the licensing and privacy policy, and consent to exchange and transfer personal data] and click [Send].

Step 5. An e-mail with the subject, "[Shimadzu Corporation] Temporary registration received", is sent to the e-mail address
entered in Step 2. Open your mail application and access the URL in the e-mail.

Step 6. Enter the name, password, password confirmation, country/region, company name, and department name of the
user using the system, and serial number located on the license certificate, and click [Confirm].

Step 7. If there is no problem with the registration details on the confirmation window, click [Register].

3. Activation procedure
If registering a license on a new computer or adding a license on a computer that has already completed license
authentication, perform the following activation procedure.
A license certificate is also required to activate a license. Have your license certificate in hand.

Step 1. Turn on the power of the PC where LabSolutions is installed. From the Start menu, select [All Programs([All
App] on the Windows 10) | LabSolutions | Software License Management Tool]. If the [User account
management] window is displayed, click [Yes].
<Note> For the LabSolutions CS version, perform this procedure on an LSS server only. Also, for Windows Server 2012R2,
click [Start]-[↓], open the application list, and select [Software License Management Tool].

Step 2. Click the [Acquire] button on the Activate window to acquire the machine code. You can also save the machine
code to a text file by clicking [Save to file].

Step 3. From a device (computer, smartphone, etc.) connected to the Internet, access the Shimadzu Software License
Management System (https://activate.an.shimadzu.co.jp), enter your e-mail address and password, and click
[Log in].

Step 4. Click [Activate].

Step 5. Enter the machine code acquired in step 2 and the serial number and security code on the license certificate
included with the product. You can also enter a memo to identify the computer that is authenticating the license
in the PC comment field. After entering, click [Confirm].
<Note> You can enter the serial number and security code of multiple licenses.

Step6. Click [Acquire] to display the activation code. The activation code can also be saved to a text file by clicking
[Save to file].

Step 7. Enter the activation code acquired in step 5 on the Software License Management tool and click [Activate].

When the "Software license activation successful." message is displayed, license authentication is complete.
There is no need to restart your computer after completing license authentication.

4. Deactivation procedure
Step 1. Turn on the power of the PC where LabSolutions is installed. From the Start menu, select [All Programs([All
App] on the Windows 10) | LabSolutions | Software License Management Tool]. If the [User account
management] window is displayed, click [Yes].
<Note> For the LabSolutions CS version, perform this procedure on an LSS server only. Also, for Windows Server 2012R2,
click [Start]-[↓], open the application list, and select [Software License Management Tool].

Step 2. Click [Deactivate] on the [Deactivate] window to acquire the deactivation code. You can also save the
deactivation code to a text file by clicking [Save to File].

Step 3. From a device (computer, smartphone, etc.) connected to the Internet, access the Shimadzu Software
License Management System (https://activate.an.shimadzu.co.jp).

Step 4. Enter your e-mail address and password and click [Log in].
Step 5. Click [Deactivate].

Step 6. Enter the deactivation code acquired in step 5 and click [Register].

When the "The following license is reusable." message is displayed, the canceling of the license authentication is
complete.
If transferring a license to another computer, activate the license on the computer receiving the transfer.

<Note> The license managed with the account logged in above step 4 is deactivated. If the license managed with another user
account on the computer is activated, deactivate with another user account from above step 3. If the deactivation from
step 3 cannot be performed with another user account, contact your Shimadzu representative.

5. License authentication procedure when upgrading


Upgrading to LabSolutions CS from LabSolutions LC/GC, LabSolution DB, LabSolutions LCMS and
LabSolutions DB LCMS
A) Upgrading from the USB dongle
Activate the upgrade license. (Shimadzu will collect your current USB dongle.)
B) Upgrading from an electronic license
Deactivate the license before upgrading, and then activate the upgrade license and deactivated license at the same time.

Upgrading to LabSolution DB from LabSolutions LC/GC


A) Upgrading from the USB dongle
Activate the upgrade license, and then insert your current USB dongle.
B) Upgrading from an electronic license
Deactivate the license before upgrading, and then activate the upgrade license and deactivated license at the same time.

Upgrading to LabSolution DB LCMS from LabSolutions LCMS


A) Upgrading from the USB dongle
Activate the upgrade license, and then insert your current USB dongle.
B) Upgrading from an electronic license
Deactivate the license before upgrading, and then activate the upgrade license and deactivated license at the same time.

6. Notes
• To transfer an authenticated license to another computer, you must first deactivate the license. If reusing a license
on another computer, activate the license on the computer receiving the transfer after deactivating the license.
• A software license and USB dongle-based license can be used simultaneously. In this case, the license information
recognized by LabSolutions is a combination of the two.
• One license can be used on only one computer. If using multiple computers, prepare licenses for the amount of
computers.
• Check troubleshooting and frequently asked questions regarding license authentication from [Frequently asked
questions (FAQ)] at the top of the Shimadzu Software License Management System
(https://activate.an.shimadzu.co.jp) window.
• If you still cannot resolve your problem, contact your nearest Shimadzu service location or sales office.
