Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE Grade 8 Module on Electronic Products Assembly and

Servicing (EPAS)!

This Self- Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-In-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin in partnership with the Local Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the learner:

Welcome to the TLE Grade 8 Module on Electronic Products Assembly &

Servicing (EPAS)!

LESSON

STEPS IN CLEANING THE COMPUTER (System Unit)

Dust inside the computer can slow it down and cause some computer
components to fail. These are the detailed steps for cleaning the inside of a system
unit:

1. Gather the tools needed – a compressed air and a screwdriver. A small vacuum
might clean up too but should never be used inside. A dust mask is suggested for
the PPE.

2. Shut down and unplug the computer.

3. Disconnect the LAN cable and all peripherals, such as monitors, scanners,
printers, keyboards, mouse and speakers.
4. Move to a suitable working area. It is not recommended to clean the computer
where it sits. The job can be very messy and so work somewhere where can
adequately ventilate dust.

5. Open the computer. If you there is a user’s manual, consulting it would be a good
idea. Most system units have screws holding a side panel down. After removing
these, slip the side off the machine.

6. Prepare to clean. Make sure to wear a face mask. If needed to touch the internal
parts, discharge any static by tapping the finger to the computer’s metal case or in
case of availability wear an anti-static wrist strap. A static charge may damage CPU
and RAM.

7. Begin dusting. Use a compressed air to blow out the inside of the machine. It is
usually good idea to start on the upper region of the computer going down. Be
thorough but do not press on cords and components and keep air source in a
moderate distance from the components.

 Make sure to hold the can of compressed air upright. If inverted, it can be let
out as a liquid which can cause server damage to the computer.
 Compressed air is freezing cold when it leaves the can, don’t let from form on
chips.
 A lot of dust can be raised, try not to breath it in. If the PC is very dusty, take
it out of doors before using the compressed air.

8. Make sure the heatsink fan is clean. The heat sink sits over the processor, and it
is a collection of metal ridges that stick up away from the motherboard. If this fan
does not function properly, the processor will overheat, resulting in degraded
performance or permanent damage.

9. Look around the entire inside and outside for any dust that might have missed.
Clean up the work space. The initial run will toss up a lot of particles. Depending
on the workspace, there may be a need to get a small vacuum and clean the area
around the computer.

10. Close your computer. Once the machine is tightly shut, return it into its usual
spot and reattach the power cord and other cables.
A clean computer will run significantly cooler and last much longer than a
computer clogged up with dust and debris.

BACKING UP FILES

Files in the computer may gone in a minute because of machine breakdown,

virus, power outage, software upgrades, or any human error. The following are some
important terms for this lesson:

 Backup – a duplicate copy of a file, program, folder or disk used if the

original is damaged, corrupt or lost.
 Restore – to copy the backed up version of information to its original
location.
 Backup Media – can be another computer, floppy disk (s), CD(s), DVD(s)
or any other recordable media for computers. In short, any storage
device.
 Full backup – backing up everything on your computer. Includes data,
software and operating system.

Backing Up Files using Storage Devices

1. Select the files to back up. If intends to backup

all folders from a certain location, just press Ctrl
+ A. If not, just click on the files needed to back
up while holding the Ctrl button.

2. Right click on the files and select “Copy”. Go to the folder of a new location. Right
click anywhere on the folder and select “Paste”. For a faster way, you may use a
keyboard shortcut. After selecting the files press “Ctrl + C”. Go to the new folder
location and press “Ctrl + V”.

Backing Up Files on Cloud

Cloud Storage is a service model in which data is transmitted and stored on

remote storage systems, where it is maintained, managed, backed up and made
available to user over a network (typically the internet).
1. Download “Dropbox” on your computer. Click and install right after.

2. Sign in with your Google Account or if there is none, just sign up with your name
and provide a password.

3. Choose how you will sync your files. Making files online-only requires payment for
the service. However, choosing ‘Make files local’ will still work the same.

4. Create a folder for your files to keep organized. Click on the “New Folder” option
on the lower right part of the program. Always create a name for your files to be easily
located when needed.
5. Open the folder you created and drag the files on the space where it says “Drag
and drop files onto this window to upload.”

6. Access the files when needed whether online or offline. If offline, click on the
Dropbox icon on your desktop and look for the file. If online, just go to
www.dropbox.com and sign in to your account to access the file.

NOTE: There are other cloud storage providers online you may choose from:

iDrive pCloud Mega OneDrive SpiderOak

iCloud Google Drive Box NextCloud And more…

ANTIVIRUS MAINTENANCE

An antivirus is a program or set of programs that are designed to prevent,

search for, detect, and remove software viruses, and other malicious software like
worms, Trojans, adware, and more.

There are various antivirus software’s that can be downloaded online and are
free to use offline (listed below). However, it needs the internet for updates if there
are. There are also premium services it offers that requires subscription. But the
basic anti-virus protection is available for free.

Total AV PC Protect

McAfee Bitdefender

Norton Avast
AVG Kaspersky

Malwarebytes BullGuard

Windows 10 has a built-in antivirus program named “Windows Defender.”

This program runs automatically in the background, ensuring all Windows users are
protected against viruses and other nasties. It will not work if there is another
antivirus downloaded. Therefore, it is advised not to add an antivirus program if
Windows 10 is the operating system.

Just run or turn on the antivirus in the computer and scan the device daily if
possible. A thorough scan may be done every week to ensure the safety of files and
the system as a whole.
