Owning A Dog
Brendan's best friend is Tip. Tip has helped Brendan become more responsible, more caring, and a
better friend. Brendan is a nine-year-old boy, and Tip is a ten-year-old dog. Brendan and Tip are an

Having a dog develops a child's sense of responsibility, broadens his capacity for empathy, and teaches
the nature of friendship.

One Sunday afternoon in Kazakhstan last August, a group of fishermen met for a celebration. They

Task 4: Production
Write a text of 100 words about your expectations, experiences and goals in this course by
using at least five different tenses.

One of the most famous buildings in the world is the White House, which is the official
home of the US president. The White House is in Washington DC where there are many other
important buildings and monuments. The city was founded in 1790 and was deliberately planned
as a national capital. George Washington, who was the first US president and whose name was
given to the city, wanted it to be the place where the nation’s government would permanently
reside.
The White House was built in pale grey sandstone. The color of the stone was so different
from the surrounding red brick building so the mansion became known as the White House. The
main building is part of a large complex that consists of over 130 rooms. Most of those rooms are
used for official matters to host the guests whom the president invites from all over the world.
People find the White House fascinating and that is the reason why the parts of the complex
that are open to the public are toured every year by one and a half million people who want to see
the place. The White House is mostly visited in spring and summer when the weather is the finest.

who travel to the festival from all over the world. Transport to the festival is easy as people can

Saturdays during the summer. These buses pass through beautiful towns and take the visitors to
Stratford.

Technology has changed rapidly in the 21st Century, and there is no doubt that changes will
happen in the future at an even faster pace. Our country has many unskilled workers who do
not have jobs. If they had more skills, they might be able to find work. However, not all useful
skills are learned at a university. In my opinion, 1) _______________ we need more people to
get a university education, not everyone needs a university education, but everyone should have
useful skills.
Firstly, our country needs more university graduates, particularly in science and technology, to
become one of the most developed countries in the world. To do this, we must 2)

Ban is both a noun and a verb. Prohibit means the same thing as ban, the verb. Prohibition
means ban, the noun. In the United States, the Prohibition era was a time period between 1920
and 1933 when the making, importing, selling, transporting, and distributing of alcohol was
banned. In other words, supplying alcohol became a crime. However, it was not a crime to
drink alcohol in one’s home. Many people thought that stopping the supply of alcohol would
cause a decrease in the drinking of alcohol, and this was true. Many people thought that less
drinking of alcohol would benefit people’s physical and mental health, and this was true. Many
people also thought that less drinking of alcohol would result in less crime. 1)

money increased. Selling alcohol illegally earned a lot of money. Just a few years after
Prohibition started, the supply of alcohol started increasing again, but illegally. Prohibition was

Exam Anxiety
Exam anxiety is the experience of feeling an intense moment of fear or panic before and/or
during an exam or assessment.
There are two types of anxiety which 1.____________ low anxiety and high anxiety. Students
who experience low anxiety may feel a little nervous about an upcoming exam but
2.____________to focus their attention on their studies or the questions which are asked during

About twenty-five years ago, the results of an exciting new study were reported in the news: If children

KIDNEY TRANSPLANTATION
Kidney transplantation is a serious issue around the world. While some people support the idea,
others are against it. Today, after doing research for a long time, Transplant Surgeon Arthur
Matas (1) _______ with the idea of legalizing the sale of kidneys. He believes that the ban of
kidney sales is the same as sending some patients to death. “There is one clear argument for
sales,” Matas says. “If a person donated his/her kidney, the practice (2) _______ increase the
supply of kidneys, save lives and improve the quality of life for those with end-stage disease.”

one up and survive without too many health risks.
