CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study:

Today we are in uncertain times because we do not know when this pandemic will end. It can

cause anxiety and depression. When we look at our newsfeed, we see dilemmas in different parts of the

world. The conflict in Afghanistan being under the Taliban rule. We all need a break from stress. But

what can soothe our minds? Music. It is a great way to listen to music to exercise our brains, besides

playing mental games such as chess or crossword puzzles. It calms our sensory system, soothes us or

relieves our stress. Music has been part of history and it never gets old. It was passed by generations to

generations. From ancient times to now, music is still alive. The beginning of music is quite unknown but

it can be possible that our early ancestors have created music by clapping their hands. Soon,

instruments are invented to upgrade the quality of music and make it sound finer. Some old instruments

have been modernized to enhance music quality. Some use electronic instruments, or use new

instruments.

Statement of the problem:

There also can be some questions after the background of the study. Here are the following

questions:

1. Will music be extinct one day?

2. What are the negative effects of music?

3. Has music helped us in any way?

4. What is the impact of music on our mental health?

5. Can it be a source of income?


Significance of the study:

This study was conducted to determine the effect of music to an individual.

Scope and limitations:

Music is important for our mental health but how does it help us? How does it calm us? Slower

music calms us by relaxing our muscles and quiets our mind.

Review of Literature:

Listening to music you enjoy can increase dopamine. Some ADHD symptoms may be a sign of

lower dopamine levels. When it comes to music for those with ADHD, listen to medium-tempo music

that have rhythms that are easy to follow.
