Reaction Paper - First Lecture
On the topic Importance of Philosophies in Business Organizations, it talks about the vital role of a
philosophy as a core value that draws its culture, which defines the uniqueness of a business state.
Business leaders sets its own business philosophy that serves as a mechanism to achieve success.
Based on this discussion, I thought that philosophy of a business is the stronghold from competitors. It is
the trademark that represent on how a business run from management down to their product or
services that they give to their customer. It is the core values that reflect the values of the business
leader. Thus, if the business leader has a positive culture, its business is more efficient, which result to
attain its goals. Also, when the employees understand the values of the company, they work effectively
and provide the best services because they know how to handle their task towards the company goa
I could see that connection of philosophy to the organizational effectiveness, as they defined it as the
ability to create a strategy to motivate people to achieve their goals and objectives. Everything starts
with a philosophy. It fuels the mechanism of how a business will flow from its management, employees,
services or product that will satisfy their customer which leads to their growth and reaching their goals.
This topic, Leading and Winning Success for Organizational Effectiveness it gives different definitions of a
leader and what leadership is. I agree with the definition that leaders are persons with a certain degree
of power and influence over other in a group, a team, or organization, or a nation’s. this supports the
statement of Maxwell that leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less.
For me, the components that makeup leadership are lifelong process. It is important to note that there
are many ways to be a leader, but I cannot say that all leaders are born. Some people have outstanding
leadership skills, while other do not. I believe that leadership is a skill that requires practice and
dedication, which is a good leader should posses.
I also found out based on the presentation about the difference of leadership and management that
both character needs to gain. Leaders take pride in being disruptive. Their guiding principle is
innovation. They welcome change and recognize that, even when things are going well, there may be a
better way forward. They also understand and accept that changes to the system frequently cause
waves. Managers stick with what works, improving systems, structures, and processes. However,
whereas management is primarily about overseeing and ensuring that daily operations go as planned,
leadership is about inspiring others to understand and support your vision and collaborate with you to
achieve your goals. It was nice to know that LPU Leadership Brand bears qualities of an authentic
leadership which will guide us as a student, acquire leadership competencies as we take this course.
WINNING IN LIFE
From the presentation about winning of life, it shows different greatest sayings that we can use as a
guide as we decide in life. It talks about success, self-management, respect, trust, change, appreciation,
and good leadership.
For me, I agree on the first saying that we should start with ourselves, have a self–reflection. I remember
when I was in college; we have retreat activity which is more on self-reflection and building close
relationship with God. I always wanted this activity, because it's like I’m picking up the broken pieces of
myself and putting it all together, assessing myself, asking myself what should I need to change and I
thinking all my burdens. After that 3 days and 2 nights, it was like a new beginning of my life, taking
another step to be a better person. This for me is winning of life, being able to pick up yourself when you
are broken and putting it up all together coz in every chapter of our life sometimes its smooths and
sometimes it's rough. Winning in life is also when you in yourself find contentment in what you have coz
each person has a different measurement of success.
