Course Unit 7 Summary of The Different Basic Statistical Tests II ANOVA - 786498536

This document provides an overview of the course module, unit, and week for a class on basic statistical tests. The unit focuses on analysis of variance (ANOVA) and comparing multiple groups. It defines ANOVA and different types including one-way and two-way ANOVA. Post-hoc tests for ANOVA like Bonferroni, Scheffe's test, Dunnett's test, and Tukey's test are also summarized. The document lists learning objectives and required readings for understanding parametric statistical tests for comparing two or more groups and properly applying and interpreting ANOVA.

PARAMETRIC TEST FOR TWO OR MORE GROUPS

 Data must be normally distributed

 There should be two or more independent groups
 Variance must be homogenous

ANALYSIS OF VARIANCE (ANOVA)

1. (One)- Way ANOVA

Used when there are two or more independent groups following the assumptions of ANOVA
with one effector variable and one affected variable.

2. (Two)- Way ANOVA

 Used when there is more than one effector variable and one affected variable
POST- HOC TEST

• Literally translates to “after the event” and is used when significance is established in
ANOVA (f-test)
• There are a number of post-hoc tests a statistician can employ with different strengths and
assumptions
• Use post-hoc tests only when F-stat is significant
• Bonferroni Correction- a post-hoc test used to adjust alpha and lower the probability of
errors in the conclusion.

SCHEFFE’S TEST

• A flexible post-hoc test that is used when significance is established in the F-test. Uses the
following formula:

DUNNETT’S TEST

• Is a post-hoc test used when a researcher would like to compare each of the other groups
to 1 “reference” group
TUKEY’S HONESTLY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE

• compare the means of each group against all the other groups.

Dependent variable- a variable whose variation depends on another variable

Independent variable- a variable whose variation produces (“causes”) variation in another
Variable
Mean- the measure of central tendency
