Motion (Distance & Displacement) LOG-NOTES

The document is a daily lesson plan for a 7th grade science class on motion, specifically discussing the concepts of distance and displacement. The objectives are to describe motion, differentiate between distance and displacement, and apply the concepts to real-life situations. The lesson plan outlines introducing the topics, providing examples, discussing concepts and having students complete activities to practice the skills, such as tracing the movement of an ant and describing scenarios involving distance and displacement. Formative assessments are used to evaluate student learning.

of the new lesson
Imagine that you are on a field trip going to the zoo. Ask them how they
feel in joining field trip.

Solicit answers from the students and ask them to relate the situation to
the happiness brought by a field trip to a child or student.

Ask: Why is it important to fulfill the happiness of children even though

some of them were forced to work at such a young age?

Relate the situation to the topic.

Ask: What are the things you could see in a zoo field trip while you are
inside a moving bus.

ACTIVITY SHEET
“ANT THE EXPLORER”

Objectives:

1. Describe the location of an ant.

2. Differentiate distance and displacement
3. Solve problems on distance and displacement.

Materials needed:

 Coupon bond
 Ruler/tape measure
 Ant
 Ballpen/marker

Procedure:

1. Trace the movement of an ant using a ballpen in a coupon bond.

2. Measure all the distances covered by the ant using a ruler or tape measure.
3. Add the total distance travelled by the ant.
4. Connect the starting point to the final point of ant’s total distance. Measure it and indicate
direction.

Guide Questions:

1. What was the initial position of the ant?

2. What is the final position of the ant?
3. What is the distance traveled by the ant?
4. What is the displacement of the ant?
5. Which of the underlined quantities (final position, distance traveled, and displacement) are
numerically equal?

Generalization:

How did you solve for the total distance and displacement of an object?

What is the difference between distance and displacement?
