AP Final Project Enrique’s Journey:

Due November 10th

Prompt:
Choose an issue/ problem explored in Enrique’s Journey, research the issue, compare
that research to how it is explored in Enrique’s Journey and then research two possible
solutions. Determine and propose what you believe based on research and your own
ideas what is the best solution to the problem.

Choose Format: minimum 1300 words


Cite at least 3 different sources / at least 4 pieces of evidence

1. Create a newspaper article -- you become the journalist and research the story. It
would be an opinion column in which you present possible solutions from the research or
your own ideas -- template will be provided
a. Minimum 1250 words
b. Images
c. Include at least 4 pieces of evidence from a minimum of 3 different sources

2. Google slide proposal -


a. Minimum 1250 word 12 slide presentation
b. Include at least 4 pieces of evidence from a minimum of 3 different sources
c. At least 4-5 images and/or statistical graphs

3. Essay - write a 5 paragraph minimum 1300 word essay

Guiding Questions to help with Essay/ Slide Presentation/ Newspaper:

Introduction:
● What is the title of the book and who is the author?
● What is an overview of the novel?
● What is the issue that is being researched?
● Thesis statement : addresses the prompt and states what will be covered in the essay

Body Paragraph 1: Issue


● Topic sentence: what part of the thesis will this paragraph address?
● Overview of the issue and what might the causes be?
● How is it referenced/ discussed in the novel?
● What evidence supports the issue/ thesis statement?
● How does this evidence support the thesis statement?
● What are the consequences of this issue?

Body paragraph 2 and 3: Solutions 1 & 2


● Topic sentence: what part of the thesis will this paragraph address?
● Overview of the solutions found?
● How might they work?
● Evidence for the solution
● How does this evidence support a solution?
● What long term benefits might there be to a solution?
● What might be the drawback of this solution?
● Conclusion

Body Paragraph 4: Chosen Solution


● Topic sentence: what part of the thesis will this paragraph address?
● What solution works best?
● Why does that solution seem like it would work best?
● Evidence
● How does the evidence support the thesis and why it would be the best solution?
● What might this solution look like when implemented? How might it help in the long run?
● What might be the draw back for the solution?
● Why is it still the best solution?

Conclusion:
● Overview of issue and solution
● Restate thesis in different words
● Summarize the primary points of the issue and solution
● End with a provocative or philosophical statement

“Newspaper articles should:

● Include facts. You can do this by answering the 5 Ws: what, when, who, where, why?
● Have a short, snappy and informative headline.
● Provide a summary at the start explaining what happened (but not giving everything
away!).
● Use paragraphs to help the reader clearly understand the information.
● Provide quotes to show people’s opinions about the event.

You could also include a picture with a caption to help the reader visualise what happened and
who was involved.

Your writing should also:

● Be formal (written as though you’re talking to someone older than you, like a teacher)
● Use third person pronouns (he, she, it, they) “
