Keyboard Project-Elroy

Proper keyboard posture is important to avoid injury and increase typing efficiency. The correct posture involves keeping the elbows bent at 90 degrees, monitor at eye level, hands and wrists in a neutral position, feet flat on the floor, and an upright back and neck. Specific keys on the keyboard like Home Row, Shift, Enter, Delete and Backspace have functions like typing letters, executing commands, and deleting text. Diagrams and tables should be used to identify proper finger placement and the functions of special keys.

Keyboard Project

Topic: Keyboard Mastery

Due Date: Friday, October 28

One of the ways to become efficient as a typist is to assume the correct posture
when typing.
Improper keyboard use and bad posture can increase the risk of injury.

1. Use the internet to research the statement above.

2. Based on your readings, list some tips that will help reduce these risks and
enhance your proficiency. (5 marks)

(1)Your keyboard should be at a height that allows your elbows to be bent about
90 degrees and close to your sides.
(2) Move your monitor so the top of your screen is at eye level.
(3)Find a comfortable position for your hands.
(4)Use the correct starting position. When practising your typing skills, it's
important to use proper hand placement.
(5) Keep your feet flat on the ground and your neck and back straight.

3. Present a picture to show the correct typing position or typing posture. Label the
picture appropriately. (5 marks)
4. Explain or outline the benefits of sitting in the correct posture while typing at the
computer. (5 marks)

The correct posture allows your neck, shoulders, back and arms to relax and
promotes circulation to the lower arms and hands

5. Get a copy of a diagram of the standard keyboard. (5 marks)

6. Use a creative way to show the HOME keys on the Keyboard diagram you found
(refer to Number 5) and the fingers that should be used for each of the keys. (5
marks)

Your left-hand fingers should be placed over the A, S, D, and F keys, and the
right-hand fingers should be placed over the J, K, L, and; keys. These keys are
considered the home row keys. Your thumbs should either be in the air or very
lightly touching the spacebar key.

7. Use a table (like the one below) OR a picture OR any other design to indicate the
correct fingers to use when typing other keys. (10 marks)

8. SPECIAL KEYS
Identify the purpose of the following keys. (10 marks)

- Caps Lock-Caps Lock is a button on a computer keyboard that causes all

letters of bicameral scripts to be generated in capital letters. It is a
toggle key: each press reverses the previous action
- Shifts-Pressing the 'shift' key allows you to type capital letters and the
symbols at the top of the keys.
- Enter-Alternatively is known as a Return key, with a keyboard, the Enter
key sends the cursor to the beginning of the next line or executes a
command or operation.
- Delete-Pressing Delete (DEL) also deletes the currently highlighted text,
image or group of images. The Delete key removes characters to the
right of the cursor, whereas the Backspace key deletes to the left.
- Backspace - Backspace ( ← Backspace ) is the keyboard key that originally pushed
the typewriter carriage one position backwards and in modern computer systems
moves the display cursor one position backwards, deletes the character at that
position, and shifts back the text after that position by one position.

Use a diagram or picture to identify them.
