Motion Worksheet 3 Grade 9

This document contains a physics worksheet on motion with 10 problems. The problems cover: 1) Calculating deceleration using the equation of motion. 2) Calculating distance and speed from given acceleration and time. 3) Interpreting velocity-time graphs to determine acceleration, retardation, and distance traveled. 4) Calculating speed from position-time graphs. 5) Calculating the speed of the seconds hand on a clock. The worksheet contains numerical problems requiring the use of kinematic equations of motion to calculate values like deceleration, speed, acceleration, retardation, and distance traveled using information provided in velocity-time and position-time graphs.

WORKSHEET 3

I Solve the following numericals using the Equations of motion:

1. A cyclist is travelling at 15m/s. She applies brakes so that she does not collide with a wall
18m away. What deceleration must she have?
2. A train is travelling at 20m/s accelerates at 0.5m/s2 for 30s. How far will it travel in this time?
3. A motorcycle moving with a speed of 5m/s is subjected to an acceleration of 0.2m/s2.
Calculate the speed acquired and the distance travelled in this time.
4. A train starting from rest moves with uniform acceleration of 0.2m/s 2 for 5min. Calculate the
speed acquired and the distance travelled in this time.
5. A bus is running at a speed of 18km/h is stopped in 2.5s by applying brakes. Calculate the
retardation produced.

II Answer the questions using the graph:

6. Velocity-time graph for motion of a body is shown below:

(a) which part of the graph shows accelerated motion?
(b) Calculate the acceleration
(c) which part of the graph shows retarded motion?
(d) calculate the retardation
(e) calculate the distance travelled by the body in first 10 s.

7. Study the velocity-time graph of a car is given below and solve the given questions.

(a) What type of motion is represented by OA?

(b) What type of motion is represented by AB?
(c) What type of motion is represented by BC?
(d) Find the acceleration of the body from O to A.
(e) Find out retardation of the body from B to C.
(f) Find out the distance travelled by the body from A to B.

8. The velocity-time graph of a body is as shown in the graph:

(a) State the kind of motion represented by OA and AB.

(b) What is the velocity of the body after 10 s and after 30 s ?
(c) Calculate retardation of the body.
(d) Calculate the distance covered by the body between 10th and 30th second.

9. The graph in below figure shows the positions of a body at different times. Calculate the
speed of the body as it moves from (i) A to B (ii) B to C and (iii) C to D.

10. The tip of the seconds’ hand of a clock takes 60 s to move once on the circular dial of the clock. If
the radius of the dial of the clock be 10.5 cm, then calculate the speed of the tip of the seconds
hand.
