Topic/Title Factors Affecting Rate of Reaction and
Collision Theory
Grade Level 11
Time Allotment 40 minutes
Objectives
ENGAGE (Get the students’ minds focused on the topic(short; question or picture)
Time: 2 minutes
From the previous picture, the teacher will ask the student about the possible factors that affect
the rate of dissolving sugar?
Instruction: On a ¼ sheet of paper, write the letter ONLY of the correct answer.
COLUMN 1 COLUMN 2
EXPLAIN (Teach the concept. Should include interaction between teacher and students).
Time: 20 minutes
⮚ Discuss the Collision Theory and Factors Affecting Reaction Rate
Key Concepts:
● Collision Theory
○ particles must collide
○ must have sufficient energy
○ have a proper orientation
● Factors Affecting Rate of Reaction
○ Temperature: as the temperature increases, the rate of reaction
increases.
○ Concentration of the reactants: as their concentration increases, the
rate of reaction increases.
○ Particle size: Increasing the surface area of a solid reactant by
increasing the size of particles increases the rate of reaction.
○ Catalyst: Catalysts increase the rate of a reaction without being
changed by the end of the reaction.
ELABORATE (Students apply the information learned in the Explain).
Time: 5 minutes
The teacher will show a simulation of chemical reactions and manipulate various variables for
the student to be able to further understand the lesson.

EVALUATE (How will you know the students have learned the concept?)
Time: 5 minutes
The teacher will give a short quiz for the assessment.
I. Direction: On a 1/4 sheet of paper; choose the letter of the correct answer.
II. Enumeration
List four factors that affects the rate of a reaction
