User Information in Versioning
User Information in Versioning
com/owncloud/core/issues/8730
Enhancement
Concerning versioning, the only information made available is the date of time (ETage).
It will be very useful to add the account name (to ease restoration of the right version of a file)

Yes, request is to add in the versioning the name of the loggued user that did an update online or push a
new version from a desktop client. In both case I guess we could retrieve the user account information (as
it is done in activities?).
Possibly, yes. But I'm not sure where that information (the owner id) could be saved. It might need an extra
database table to save such metadata.

We already thought about it, this is not as easy as it seems in the first moment. We take a copy of the file
and create a version right before the file gets updated. At this point in time we know who updates the file
right now but not who wrote the file before. As @PVince81 suggested we would need to store somehow
the last user who edited a file and use this information the next time the file gets updated. Not sure if it is
worth the efforts.
From a final user point of view, it will be valuable to have this information... In a collaborative perspective it
is very important.
Anyway, I understand that it is a major change that cannot be solved in the current data structure.
But in a next release this should be adressed that impact organisation that wants to use OC as a real
collaborative EFSS.
