Lesson 4

The Areas and Collections of JRU Main Library

The JRU Main Library is located at Bldg H. It occupies both the first and second floors of Building
H and has a total floor area of 1,337 square meters. It has a seating capacity of 1000 and is fully
air conditioned. It houses a rich collection of books and periodicals, listing more than 100,000
with hundreds of new books and non-books added regularly and over 50 print titles of local and
foreign journals aside from an online subscription.

Our collections, housed in the area, have references pertaining to Nursing, HRM, IT, Computer
Engineering, Computer Science, Reference, Periodical Collections, General Circulation,
Filipiniana, and Special Collections.

PRINT COLLECTION

& GENERAL REFERENCE COLLECTION


The Reference collection contains collection of extensive reference materials, such as,
dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, guides, directories and other reference type of books.
All books in this collection are not allowed to be taken out of the library for home use.

& FILIPINIANA COLLECTION

The Filipiniana collection is all about the Philippines regardless of the author, imprint of formal. It
includes books on Philippine history, political science, culture, literature and other subjects. It also
includes the writings of Filipino authors whether published abroad or in the Philippines.

& SPECIAL COLLECTION

The main library houses two (3) special collections namely: Maria Kalaw Katigbak, Jose Dacanay Baltazar
and Sister Virginia Fabella Collection. Location Codes: MKK, JDB and SVF
& GENERAL CIRCULATION

The General Circulation houses books that contain foreign general education books which have been
designated by the faculty members as required reading for their subject areas. Location Code: G

& HOTEL AND TOURISM COLLECTION (formerly Hotel and Restaurant Collection)

Books in this collection help equip students with knowledge in the food and hospitality industry,
providing

information on the practices and functions of hoteliers and restaurateurs. It carries resources on guest

reception, housekeeping, food and beverage service, events planning, and more. Location Code: HRM
& NURSING COLLECTION

This section contains a collection of books for the development of professional nurses in different

healthcare settings. It aims to help in honing the nursing competencies of students under the BSN

curriculum. Location Code: NU

& COMPUTER SCIENCE COLLECTION

Resources in this section focus on the study of computers, programming, information, and technology.

This collection also features books on the development of hardware, software, and applications.

& INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COLLECTION

The IT collection is comprised of materials that help prepare students to be well versed on the
installation,

operation, development, maintenance, and administration of applications. Resources on hardware

installation, operation, and maintenance may also be found in this section. Location Code: G

& COMPUTER ENGINEERING COLLECTION

The Engineering collection carries resources on emerging technologies for the conceptualization, design,
and implementation of new, improved, or innovative electronic, computer and communication systems,

devices, goods, services, and processes. Location Code: EN

& RIZALIANA COLLECTION

The Rizaliana Collection houses all creative writings, works and life of Dr. Jose Rizal in any forms and
formats.

& NEW ACQUISITIONS COLLECTION

The New Acquisitions Collection are books that are acquired and copyrighted within the last five (5)
years (2016-Present).
& FICTION COLLECTION

The Fiction Collection of the library consists of books that are imaginary stories created and written by
the author. These are stories like mysteries, fantasies, science fiction and historical fiction.

& PERIODICALS / SERIALS COLLECTION

The Periodical collection of the library consists of journals, magazines and newspapers to which the
library subscribes. This collection is a publication which is issued periodically or at state of intervals.

& Vertical Files

The Vertical files are clippings from newspapers that provide up-to-date supplementary information on
all subjects filed alphabetically by subject.

NON-PRINT MATERIALS

< MULTIMEDIA COLLECTION

The Non-print materials are composed of maps, globes, CDs, DVDs, cassettes and diskettes. They can be
borrowed and viewed within the library.
: ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

The E-Resources are supplementing the printed books on selected subjects. Such titles are accessible to
multiple students at any given time inside and outside the library (24/7).
: MOBILE RESOURCES

Mobile resources are made available for students to use within the library premises. They can borrow
one (1) mobile resources with a limited time. They can also use this unit to access their academic
modules and online databases available for them.

AREAS OF THE LIBRARY

 CIRCULATION AND REFERNCE SERVICE AREA


All library materials are borrowed and returned properly in the circulation area. Students and faculty
must present their valid ID before borrowing the library materials.

The Reference Service is made available to answer all the queries regarding the library and its collection.
It also helps the user locate the information they need. It also teaches the user on how to use and
maximize the library resources.

 COMPUTER WORKSTATION

Computer workstations are made available for students with 40 computer units that can be use for
research purposes. They can also access the online databases through these computers.

 OPAC (ONLINE PUBLIC ACCESS CATALOG) AREA

OPAC stands for Online Public Access Catalogue. It is an online database of materials held by a library or
group of libraries through which users search a library catalog principally to locate books and other
materials available at a library. You can search books and other library materials using OPAC. Just enter
your subject of research and pick your preferred book.
