Okay class let us now proceed into our topic which is
the Addition
Now class when we say Addition it is about numbers
and we say Addition is when we add and put the
numbers together
Or it is the process whereby we put the object together
that is, it is the total sum of two or more numbers.
Examples:
 when we add the numbers
2+1=
4+2=
5+4=
 When we add the object using problem solving.

There are 3 apples in one basket and 3 apples

in the other, so how many apples
are all in the basket?
3+3=?

Remember class you can add the numbers in any order

example.

There are 4 red apples in the one

basket and 3 green apples in the other,
so how many apples are there in all basket?
4+3 or 3+4

Go ahead Jamil you can ask me? Teacher can red apples and green apples add even

not same color but they still called apple because of the Thank you teacher
same texture, figures and taste
No more question, children at the back? No teacher

Okay so shall we proceed into the topic?

In Addition there are three (3) parts Yes teacher
Addends, the Two sign (plus sign and equal to sign) and
the Sum.
 Addends – the numbers or term being added
together
 Equal sign- logical equivalence
 Sum – the total of the addends
Examples:
sum

a. 7 + 2= 9
Equal sign
Addends
b. 4+3= 7
c. 2+2= 4

Addition words:
both, sum total, add, all together, plus
What is the different between sum and addend, who can
answer me, I will give you a reward?
Addends can be defined as the numbers or term added
together to form a sum. And sum is total addend

Are you listening class, children at the back are you with
me?
Now again here is my question is can addition be across
and down ward?
Anyone who can tell me, please raise your hand? Yes teacher
Okay, just always remember class that Addition can be
cross or down, why because numbers can be add in any
order
Examples:
Across Down

4+3 4 or 3 Maybe teacher

+3 +4

7+3 7 or 3
+3 +7

5+1 5 or 1
+1 +5
