roles in your chosen creative media industry
As an Esports student it is essential you are aware of the wide variety of jobs you may be able to
do within this industry. This first task is about you demonstrating exploration of some of the
roles which are found within Esports, writing a little about your understanding of what they
mean and why they interest you.

You are required to pick the FIVE career/roles you are most interested in from the link provided
at the bottom of this document. For EACH ONE write an explanation IN YOUR OWN WORDS of
what you think this role is and why you have chosen it. Be clear and specific in your answers,
showing off your knowledge and enthusiasm; vague answers such as “this looks interesting” will
not be accepted.

What is it/what are the important aspects of it?


Professional gamer, working well as a team.

Why might you want to do it?


Play in a team very competitively in events such as tournaments. I would want to become a professional gamer as it
seems like a good industry to get in to as it can lead to many different opportunities.

What skills/knowledge/experience might you need?


I would need good team working skills, communication skills along with determination and confidence.
Also, I will need patience as you will not be a professional gamer without making mistakes or without trying your best.

What barriers might you have to doing this job?


The job of being a professional gamer is incredibly popular and it can be hard to achieve this as a job.

How might you get over these barriers?


I could overcome this by practicing and trying my hardest to be the best possible player I can be.

What is it/what are the important aspects of it?


Product Manager

Why might you want to do it?


Becoming a product manager could also lead to many different opportunities and I believe managing and creating
products could be something I enjoy.

What skills/knowledge/experience might you need?


With esports events and tournament providers, a product manager might have to manage a professional esports league,
be responsible for the competition’s activities and even work on a social media strategy. When working on a league, you
may be required to come up with initiatives to drive engagement, or to help design the format of the tournament.
What barriers might you have to doing this job?
You will need to be very good and organised in developing a business strategy, roadmap, hitting a target, as well as some
elements of PR/marketing.
How might you get over these barriers?
Become very independent and getting used to developing roadmaps and business strategies.

Social Media Executive

Why might you want to do it?


Managing a businesses social media could be a very interesting job as you will need to promote products and try to gain
as many sales as possible.

What skills/knowledge/experience might you need?


Knowing how to manage several media channels such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok.

What barriers might you have to doing this job?


This job could be seen as overcrowded since many people may want to go into a similar job therefore there will be
competition achieving a job in this field.

How might you get over these barriers?


Become the best I can possibly be in this area and work harder than others.

What is it/what are the important aspects of it?


Coach/Analyst
Like traditional sports, a coach will help the team train against other teams (aka ‘scrim’) in order to improve.
Why might you want to do it?
Training a team could be a very fun job to have and could lead to greater opportunities such as training one of the top
teams. A coach is responsible for every aspect relating to performance within a team. This includes, but is not limited to,
growth of individual skill of the players, team cohesion, and an in-game strategy.

What skills/knowledge/experience might you need?


How to teach a team effectively, create a game strategy to beat others and pick out your opponents weaknesses in
game.

What barriers might you have to doing this job?


Many people will want to get a place in this industry and it is growing alot so it may be challenging to secure a place
here.

How might you get over these barriers?


Train the hardest I can and learn how to train a team well.

What is it/what are the important aspects of it?


Event manager.
Event managers are responsible for ensuring a particular tournament or esports event is delivered as expected.
Why might you want to do it?

Becoming a event manager could be a great job and has a high income which would be very beneficial. This could also
lead to better jobs in the future in this industry.

What skills/knowledge/experience might you need?


I will need good time management skills, meeting deadlines and good communication skills with peers.

What barriers might you have to doing this job?


This job involves alot of travelling and preparation for each event which will be very time consuming.

How might you get over these barriers?


Developing patience, and understand that this job can get very long.
