Introduction (00:01)
Hi. I’m Danny Tomic, Product Marketing Manager at Cisco, here to talk to you
about the Cisco Associate Level Security Certification Program, called Cisco
CCNA Security.
Job roles supported by CCNA Security (00:14)
This certification is for network security administrators and specialists, who want
to demonstrate their understanding of core security technologies.
Skills covered in CCNA Security (00:22)
Skills that are covered in this program include the installation, troubleshooting,
and monitoring of network devices to maintain integrity, confidentiality, and
availability of data and devices. The network is changing, with networks available
anytime, anywhere, and from almost any device, and with the increasing number
of industry and government compliance mandates, having a base level of
network security knowledge and skills is more critical than ever.
The CCNA Security Certification is a three year program that recognizes the
ability of a network security professional to develop a security infrastructure,
recognize threats and vulnerabilities to networks, and mitigate security threats.
The skills that are tested in this certification are related to tasks the network
security professionals perform day-to-day.
Course focus on comprehensive Security Policy and
best practices (01:14)
The course and exam focus on the need for a comprehensive security policy,
and reinforces security best practices using the latest Cisco equipment.
Product and features of the course (01:23)
Products and features include Cisco IOS firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, Cisco IOS
intrusion prevention systems, and endpoint security options.
Pre-requisites to certification (01:37)
As a prerequisite for the CCNA Security Certification, candidates must hold a
valid CCENT, CCNA Routing & Switching, or any CCIE certification. Candidates
must then pass the Implementing Cisco IOS Network Security exam, more
commonly called IINS. This exam covers a wide range of security topics,
including securing and implementing AAA on Cisco routers, mitigating threats
using ACLs, and implementing secure network management and reporting. You
can prepare for this exam with an instructor lead course, self-study, or a
combination of both methods. The Cisco authorized course is titled Implementing
Cisco IOS Network Security.

The Cisco Learning Network (03:05)
The Cisco learning network can help you prepare for your exams and classes.
This site provides exam topics, self-study materials, and self-assessments. The
website also has a community area, where candidates can share tips and tricks
for studying effectively. The site has more than 200,000 users representing all
countries of the world, actively participating in, and sharing information about
Cisco certifications. The website URL is https://learningnetwork.cisco.com.
In the U.S., the CCNA Security certification program is CNSS 4.0.1.1 compliant,
so in addition to achieving your CCNA Security certification, passing the exam
will also recognize you as having met the CNSS 4.0.1.1 training standard. The
CCNA Security certification provides a great first step in being recognized as a
network security engineer, but in addition to the associate level certification,
Cisco has professional and expert level security certifications designed as a path
to grow your skills, and grow your career.
There are also a number of security specialist certifications that can be used for
cross training or staff development. These specialists certifications are designed
for people who specialize in a specific technology or product set, including
intrusion prevention, VPNs, perimeter firewalls, mobile access, and NAC. The
Cisco learning network website provides more information listed under Security
Specialists. Certification of your skills provides the way to differentiate yourself,
and give credibility to your skills and knowledge.
In an area like security, which is both highly visible and fast paced, having
practical, hands on skills is critical for your success. The CCNA Security
certification ensures that you have real world security implementation and
troubleshooting skills that employers want. For more information about how to
get started, visit the Cisco Learning Network website today. Thanks for watching.
