SECTION 1: E-LAPS '22
On behalf of LUMS Photographic Society, it gives us great
pleasure to invite students from your prestigious institution to
participate in our first virtual event: e-LAPS. As an annual
initiative, we aim to enable all those devoted to the art of
photography to showcase their talent.
e-LAPS is a 3-Day event, filled with excitement, learning, and
intense competitions. All events under the banner of e-LAPS are
very tediously arranged to ward off monotony, and to provide
the participants with an incredible hybrid experience. The
participants will be given all the freedom to play with colors,
experiment with backgrounds, and venture with different
subjects to polish their photography skills.
Attached, you will find further details of the event, including
the registration fee, schedule, and information about the
photography competitions. The event will be held on the 18th,
19th, and, 20th of February ‘22 in a hybrid setting. Our team
sincerely hopes that your institute will join us in promoting
photography in Pakistan by being a part of e-LAPS. We look
forward to your participation.

SECTION 2: LUMS PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is one of the
leading higher educational institutes in Pakistan. Not only does
it provide the youth with the opportunity to excel in academia,
but also encourages different forms of art, culture, and talent.
The very existence of multiple student-led societies at LUMS
promotes diversity, which renders the institute unsurpassed in
many academic standards and extra-curricular activities. With
that said, LUMS is also the home for Pakistan’s biggest student
run photography society: LUMS Photographic Society. We
provide all aspiring photography entrepreneurs, not just from
LUMS, but from all over the country, the chance to fully utilize
their talent, and refine it. Some of our techniques include
conducting workshops, competitions, and photo-walks.
Perceiving the growing interest of young, enthusiastic
individuals in photography, LUMS Photographic Society will be
hosting the hybrid edition of LUMS Annual Photography
Summit this year i.e. e-LAPS, Mehfil-e- Tasaweer, Numaish,
Aksbandi, PhotoFM, ‘Kahani’ and ‘Chiragh-e-Umeed’ under its

SECTION 4: ABOUT E-LAPS
At e-LAPS, our goal is to lead in the realm of photography
despite the circumstances and to provide all passionate
photographers with an hybrid platform to showcase their
talent and skills. Not only will participants belonging to
different institutes display their work, but they will also finesse
their talent through the competitions, workshops and panel
talks. They would also be able to virtually connect and network
with fellow photography enthusiasts from all over the world.
e-LAPS is an ideal opportunity for rewarding, learning, and
socializing. Our aim is to help the delegates improve their skills
by pushing them out of their comfort zones to discover the
virgin creative lands within themselves. Needless to say, the
competitions will be the most crucial aspect of the
extravaganza. However, LUMS Photographic Society will be
providing the delegates with an amalgam of fun, while also
demanding effort, in order to make the challenges gratifying
rather than daunting. The events are very well thought-out and
diverse according to the online setting and can therefore test
the contestants on a wide spectrum of photography. LUMS
Photographic society is looking forward to having you on
aboard.

Redesigning Old Pakistani Ads *(NEW):
We wanted to give our participants a completely new
experience of designing and get their creative juices
flowing. As the name suggests, this module focuses on the
recreation of old Pakistani advertisements. The participants
will be given a reference advertisement, their task will be to
redesign that advertisement in the contemporary context.
They will have complete creative freedom.
Forced Perspecitve:
There are no bounds in this one, it's just YOU, your CAMERA,
and your CREATIVITY. The world may tell you to think
outside the box? We believe there is no box!
To describe this event it one phrase, "The way it looks, isn't
the way it actually is!"
The participants will have to capture images that creates
optical illusion to make an object look closer or farther or
bigger or smaller than it actually is. The photograph will
manipulates the visual perception of human eye to create
fun images that easily attract viewers besides conveying
important information in some cases.
Photo Story (Caption Based Photography):
We'll ask the participants to submit their photo story in form
of 4-5 images with captions; restricted to a specific number
of characters (preferably very less).
Purpose of this event:
It will highlight the importance of proper captions (obvious
reason)
Participants will have a quick reality check that the world
does not have time to read through your jargons and
extensive paragraphs. In order to attract them, you need to
be concise, creative, and let your photographs do the talking
To teach the participants that AESTHETICS are not the
essence of photography (Refer to Camera Lucida by Roland
Barthes), and its the meaning that is powerful
Double/Multiple Exposure Photography *(NEW):
In this genre of photography participants have to
combine/superimpose 2 or more of their photographs to
create a composite image. @mehlum.sadriwala 's
photographs of Konya are perfect examples for this event.
Panorama Story *(NEW):
The inspiration for this event was one of the least used
feature/mode in cameras. As the name of the event suggests
"its the panorama mode." Participants will have to use
panorama mode to depict a story, which will progress
throughout the span of the panoramic image. Participants
will have the option to supplement their shot with any
caption (which is restricted character limit). Some ideas for
topics are evolution, growth, domestic abuse.
Color and Tones *(NEW):
The event will test the photo-editing & colour correcting
knowledge of the participants. This includes skin
retouching, colour harmonies, creative colour grades. We
will first select a RAW photo taken by any society member
or our event Judge. This RAW image will be provided to the
participants who will edit this picture on Lightroom or
Photoshop. The best edited picture will be declared winner
of the event!

Showcasing the shapes and darkness shadows cast is a
surprising way to enhance a composition. Shadows help
strengthen the photo by adding a sense of balance,
contrast, or dimensionality to the composition.

The simple definition of a self-portrait is a picture of oneself.
They are carefully composed, well- thought-out, and meant
