My name is Mukti and I come from a small village in

Bangladesh, in the district of Kurigram. I live with my
parents and my four brothers and three sisters. My what you do in the afternoon and the evening

My typical day starts at 6.30 in the morning when I get
up and have some rice and chapatti bread for breakfast.

We study Maths, History, Science, English – the same
subjects as students in Europe, I think. For lunch I have
some fruit. School finishes at two o’clock and then we
walk home.
In the afternoon I go to the river with my friends to
wash, to fish and play games. In the evening my family
and I have rice, lentils and some fish for dinner and
then we spend time in the village with our friends. A lot
of houses and shops in our village haven’t got
electricity, so we use candles at night. There is one bar
with a television, and it is very popular. I go to bed at
nine o’clock.
Many people think that because Bangladesh is a very
poor country, life here is terrible, but it’s only difficult
when the monsoon arrives and we have problems with
water. In general, my life is good here, I’ve got lots of
friends, there’s a good community spirit and I’m happy.
