What have you learned in the video?

C. Presentation of the Lesson

Food preservation-  includes food processing practices which prevent the

growth of microorganisms, such as yeasts, and slow the oxidation of fats
that cause rancidity.
Traditional Methods of Food Preservation includes:
 Drying
 Cooling
 Freezing
 Boiling
 Heating
 Salting
 Sugaring
 Smoking
 Pickling
 Lye
 Canning
 Jellying

Most Commonly used methods;

 Drying - Drying or “dehydrating” food is a method of food

preservation that removes enough moisture from the food so
bacteria, yeast and molds cannot grow.
 Canning - Canning, the process of placing foods in jars or cans
and heating properly to a specified temperature, is a way to
preserve many different foods. The high heat destroys
microorganisms and inactivates enzymes to preserve the safety
and quality of the food.
 Vacuum Packing - Vacuum packing is a packaging process that
preserves food for longer by creating a vacuum that removes the
air before sealing, preventing the growth of micro-organisms.
 Salting - Salting is a method of preserving food, that was more
common before modern refrigeration. Salting preserves food by
drawing water out of the food, preventing bacteria growing and
spoiling the food. There are two methods of salting food: Dry
Curing. The food is surrounded in salt and left in a cool dry
place.
 Freezing - freezing, in food processing, method of preserving
food by lowering the temperature to inhibit microorganism

growth.

The importance of Food Preservation:

 Prevent spoilage of food

 Retain the nutritive value and texture of food
 Maintain the good and sanitary quality of product
 Increase family income by the sale of preserve food
 Help in the economics development of the country
 Make food readily available throughout the year

D. Application
In a cartolina, formulate three techniques or on how you prolong the shelf-
life of the food and indicates the method used to make the preservation
successful. After that class, present and explain how this techniques
works in food preservation.

E. Generalization
The teacher will use the discussion techniques Gradual Psychological
