Unity in Diversity - Competition Script

Five villagers encounter a stranger from another caste drawing water from their village well. The villagers confront the stranger and tell him to leave. They go to see the wise village guru concerned that more outsiders will come. The guru counsels them that all humans are the same - they all require land, water, food and enjoy nature. Differences in appearance or customs should not cause fear or division. The guru advises that they not be afraid of each other. The stranger later returns with water as a gesture of friendship, and the villagers appear open to beginning a new relationship.

Script - Unity in Diversity

Five villagers from the same community are drawing water from a well. A stranger of
the other cast walks towards them.

Villager 1: Ahem! Ahem! (Clears throat)

Villager 2: Do you see what I see? (Whispering)

Villager 3: Sure, I do. (Loudly) Hey Stranger! This well is only for the villagers. Go back to
your village and let us stay in peace.

Stranger: I didn’t want to make you angry. I have just moved into the village. I was thirsty,
so, I thought of having some water and meeting everyone. Why are you so angry?
I didn’t mean to scare or harm you.

Villager 4: You are not supposed to be here, so you should leave.

Stranger: Just because you came here first you think this is your well! Have a good day. See
you people later.

Villager 1: Did you see that?

Villager 4: We need to fix this problem.

Villager 2: Let’s go to the wise guru of the village.

Five villagers go to the guru.

Villager 4: We have a stranger who has come to drink from our well. If we don’t stop him,
there will be much more.

Villager 1: They will outnumber us! We need to tell him to go away.

Guru: Oh my! I don’t think we should treat anyone like this. What makes you feel so afraid?

Villager 3: He looks different and his way of life, his habits, and even the way he talks is
different from us.
villager 2: This is a real problem; trust me. I even heard the people from the other village
facing the same problem when I went for their annual fair.

Guru: Fear and doubt spoil peace and happiness. All humans are the same; we find lands,
drinking water, grow food, talk and above all, we love nature. We shouldn’t be afraid of each
other.

grow food, talk and above all, we love nature. We shouldn’t be afraid of each other.
We all may look different, but we can see our reflection in the water. We are the same.

The stranger comes in. Villager 1 and 2 jolt in fear.

Stranger: Hi folks! I have spotted a new well in the neighbourhood. I have got some water
for you as well.

All villagers are relieved, and it seems like a new friendship is about to begin.
