Part 3: Conversations

Pre-task 2 Here are some things about TOEIC two skills Part 3: Conversations that you should bear in mind.

 This part contains 30 questions. You will hear 10 conversations and will be asked to answer 3 questions
about each conversation. You will not read the conversations. You will hear them only once. Do n0t get
distracted.
 Read the questions and responses as quickly as possible before listening to the conversation. Predict the
text. Choose your responses and get ready to listen to the next conversation. You will have approximately 8
seconds to choose your answer after you listen to each question.
 The answers to many questions in this part of the exam are not stated directly. Listen carefully and use
your knowledge of related vocabulary and context to choose the answers.
 Think of words (nouns and verbs) linked to what you hear in the conversations. Be aware of same word
distractors. When you hear the same word in the conversation and in the answer choices, be careful. This

5 minutes does not mean that is the correct answer.

 Listen to who (which speaker) says what in the conversation.
whole class  Some questions ask you to infer things about a situation. Look for inference markers: What can be
said/implied/inferred…?
