ABSTRACT
Due to the recent increase in crime rates, personal safety is a very important issue.
Women and children are the most affected. Women’s safety has become a major
issue. Due to physical / sexual abuse and fear of violence, they are deprived of their
normal life. We would like to present a project that helps protect personal safety.
The application name is personal safety app. It is an application with lots of features.
Although these applications already exist in many countries. Our team is building
cost effective and easy to use application, which will be used by lots of peoples in
case of emergency and get the required help as soon as possible

1.1 PROBLEM STATEMENT

At any emergency situation people get panicked and, in that situation, they may not be
able to operate their smartphone applications, and cannot immediately defend the
attacker and protect themselves. The proposed system can be useful for women and
children for security purpose. It consists of a wearable safety device having sensors and
an emergency button which when activated sends an alert message with location
information to the victim's family and nearby police station. When confronting a
potential life- threatening situation such as kidnapping, mugging or even robbery, the
victim has very little time gap to think of the best way to escape from the situation.
However, requesting for help is the most instant procedure for the victim to think of
during the critical situation. In light of rapid concern of safety issue, mobile apps
implementation may be extended into personal safety procedures.

1.2 MOTIVATION

Everybody wants to be independent but what stops them to be carefree? The answer
to above question is their security. This is a very important issue to discuss and existing
application for security purpose is not enough as these applications may not be used by
victim due to a long operating procedure for requesting help.

The above situation gives rise to our main purpose that is ease of using security
application. We try to make an easy and friendly user interface which also provides
direct shortcuts for contacting emergency contacts. This is useful feature as it is less
time consuming for the victim to operate their device and ask for help.

The objectives of this research are: -

1.4 SCOPE
⮚ As stated in the Introduction of the study, victims of a criminal situation
have problems of requesting help during these situations. Without the
ability to think fast, the victim would be unable to think of any relevant way
of escaping the potentially life threatening situation.
⮚ Calling for help using the mobile devices would be almost impossible if the
victims were involved in a kidnapping situation. Therefore, this study will be
focusing on the solution for requesting help during these critical situations.
⮚ Users’ perspective regarding the implementation of mobile application
towards personal safety. With the significant rise in technological
development of mobile application, the author will take a closer look
regarding the implementation of mobile devices in the issue of personal
safety. This initiative will make use of the data collected via the literature
review and other research methodology planned later for the research
process.
⮚ Review and analysis of the existing mobile application for personal safety
purpose.
⮚ We will also focus on identifying the essential attributes for a personal
safety mobile application to be effective towards the user and compare the

2.1 CRITICAL EVALUATION OF GENERAL PAPERS

Numerous works have been done against attacks to provide safety. In this paper, Application
helps in tracking the location of the registered user, along with one of the registered contacts
will receive a call from the user in case of an emergency. Further, it sends SMS to a registered
contact containing location using latitude and longitude provided GPS location tracking system
of the device, the SMS message will be sent every 5 minutes until the user of the application
stops it manually [1].
The user can trigger the calling function by shaking the phone or by the user interface of that
application via the panic button and the respective location will be sent to emergency contacts
as well as police [2].
There are multiple features like lock screen access and siren on the receiver device. The
modules of the HearMe application can be accessed through hardware buttons with the
intention to get quick access to the victim woman. Also, HearMe [3] blows a noisy siren on the
receiver device even if the mobile is in silent mode, which increases the reliability of getting
help.
This mobile software sends a message with the user’s GPS coordinates to a listing of emergency
contacts while a button on the app display is touched. The coordinates are updated and reset
with each 300m trade-in location [4].
The authors describe an advanced women security system to provide the safety measure in
public places and public transports. In this app it consists of SOS Keypress Module and Voice
Recognition Module, Global Positioning System (GPS) module, Spy camera which detects Night-
vision hidden cameras which are placed in changing roomshotels room etc.[5] In such cases it
traces the location using GPS module and sends the notification to the user about unsafe place.

It can be concluded that our App provides a safe and secure environment to the people in the
society, and allows them to live freely. Anyone before doing any crime against the anyone will
be deterred and it help reducing the crime rate. This application will act like a weapon that will
ensure the safety and security which works on the Smartphone with the android operating
system. With further research and innovation, our project can be implemented on a small
wearable device like watch, pendent, wristband which will be build using GPS and GSM
modules. On triggering this system the GPS data will acquired by the GPS module and will
encoded into a valid Google maps link and send through text messages to enlisted family,
friends. In future will work on designing it more secure for decreasing the crimes at the lowest
level. Additionally, planning to introduce two unique features in this application. That is hidden
camera. As this is also a safety issue for women. Also identifying microphones. The method
which includes user can move his/her phone around doubtful area, if a strong field is detected,
user can be aware about hidden device that is secreted within the particular place. Another
feature needs to implement in future is marking the unsafe places. If any user faces felt that
place is unsafe, they can tag that place as unsafe zone. This helps another user who are in that
place. These features will make it more useful and reliable.
