1 Rev3 Software
Upgrade
This page outlines the process and reasoning behind upgrading Form6
controllers and the computers used to program them to version 4.0.1 Rev3.
Rev3 of the ProView software was released in November 2007 and all new
Form6’s shipped will come with this software. If you do not have any of the
4.0.1 Rev3 CD’s, contact ADR and we will send some out to you.

Do I have to do anything?
No, not straight away as the old versions still works fine, but please note
the following:

• New Form6’s will come with the new 4.0.1 Rev 3 version of the
software and firmware.
• You will not have access to the new features.There will be problems
connecting ProView to Form6’swith different versions of the firmware.
• When you go to modify Form6 settings you may run into problems with
version control.
• You will start having to support multiple different ProView versions on
your computers.

What are the extra features of 4.0.1?


• New Ethernet interoperability functionality including DNP over TCP/IP
enhancements to easily integrate the F6 control with new and legacy
automation systems.
• New automatic battery testing and communications interface,
eliminating local battery testing, saving utility cost to check battery
status.
• New voltage restraint threshold for under/over frequency tripping to
simplify configuration of the Form 6 control.
• New restoration schedule and abort time functionality for auto-voltage
restoration to provide consistent programming with auto-frequency
restoration, saving configuration time.
• New X, Y, and Z instantaneous voltage metering and three phase kVAr
and kVA power metering for Loop Scheme metering and power
measurements, increasing data for grid optimisation.

What does 4.0.1 Rev3 fix?


There is a fault with the 4.0 and 4.0.1 ProView software that causes the
ProView software to be unable to go online. This prevents you from seeing
current data, SOE’s and makes it hard to download oscillographic events.
The fault is caused by the structure of the Form6 and the ProView not being
equal. This error happens even if you choose “Open scheme from device” in
the ProView software. The only way to fix this is to re-download the program
file to the Form6, which wipes the stored data anyway. We do not
recommend this.

The other issue is that the upgrade wizard can modify files in your 4.0
installation which can also cause the problem above. The new 4.0.1 Rev3
upgrade wizard corrects this problem.

Other issues
4.0.1 Rev2

We recommend that anyone using this version upgrade to 4.0.1 Rev3 as the
problems described above are fixed in Rev3. Rev2 will show a file date of
2005 for the “proview401_Wizard_F6-F6TS.exe” file found in the C:Program
FilesCooperProview401 directory. Download and read 4.0.1Rev2 - Rev3
Instruction letter S280-478 and 4.0.1Rev2 - Rev3 Service information S280-
70-20 before proceeding to upgrade.

Compatibility

ProView 4.0.1 (all revisions) is not compatible with 4.0. Any file or Form 6
programmed in 4.0 will not be able to be viewed or modified with 4.0.1 (any
revision). Similarly any From6 control or file programmed with 4.0.1 will not
be able to be read by 4.0. 4.0.1 Rev3 has the ability to correctly upgrade the
old 4.0 configuration files to the new 4.0.1 Rev3.

ProView and Firmware 3.2.2

In order to migrate from 3.2.2 to 4.0.1 you will have to install 4.0. This is only
required to upgrade the ProView files (from 3.2.2 to 4.0 and then from 4.0 to
4.0.1 Rev3), you can change the firmware straight from 3.2.2 to 4.0.1.
