RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE


DATATHON: PROGRAMMING COMPETITION 2022

A. VENUE AND DATE OF THE QUIZ


The Datathon: Programming Competition 2022 will be held virtually this November 2022
via Zoom. Final schedule shall be announced as soon as possible.

B. ELIMINATION ROUND

1. All Local/Regional Student Chapters with the supervision of Local/Regional IECEP


Chapter are expected to conduct their elimination rounds by mid October 2022. The
student chapters are responsible for their schedules, which shall be announced to their
respective member schools.
2. The top winning schools will move to the Datathon: Programming Competition 2022.
3. The different student chapters shall set the rules and regulations governing the conduct
of Student Chapters’ Programming Competition based on the rules and regulations
provided for in this set of guidelines.
4. Only those who are officially endorsed by the Student Chapter/Sector through the
Local/Regional IECEP Chapter as official representatives are allowed to participate in
the Datathon: Programming Competition 2022.
5. Schools who do not undergo the elimination round under the Local/Regional Student
Chapters are not qualified to join the Datathon: Programming Competition 2022.

C. QUALIFICATIONS AND TEAM COMPOSITION


1. The student chapter’s team must be the sole winner of any equivalent Programming
Competition, held by their Student Chapter following a similar set of mechanics set by
this event, at a minimum or granted with a recommendation signed by their chairperson
and other higher-positioned entities.

2. All qualifiers stipulated in (1) should be held this year, and not later than 15 October
2022.

3. The participating team should be composed of bona fide electronics engineering


students for this Academic Year whereas the participating school should be an affiliated
Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP), Inc.

school/institution of the IECEP Education Student Chapter. The participating team must
be composed of three (3) members only.

4. They must accomplish the registration form and submit necessary documents under the
prescribed format.

5. The team must have 1 Official Coach representing them.

6. Students who are or have at most a 2nd degree of consanguinity to any IECEP Education
Student Chapter are prohibited from participating in the said event.

7. Filial or same-school conflicts with any of the event proctors should be declared on the
day of event.

E. GENERAL MECHANICS

1. The programming languages of the competition are limited to C++, Java, and Python 3
only. Given problems will be solved and coded in any of the specified programming
languages.

2. All teams are expected to have a device (laptop preferably) to use for programming and
uploading the required files.
3. Participants must only use the packages/modules native/built-in to the preferred language
unless specified by the problem. Assume that the submittals are in executable file format
to avoid further complications during compilation.

F. PROGRAMMING MECHANICS

1. The competition will run for three (3) hours only.

2. A team may submit a claim of ambiguity or error in each problem. If the claim is valid, a
clarification statement will be issued to all teams. (Applicable only to running errors)

3. A team will be disqualified for any action that jeopardizes the competition, such as but not
limited to unauthorized modification of competition materials. The decision of the board of
judges will be final and irrevocable. (Note: The problems will be presented and must be
in PDF Format.)

G. PREPARATIONS

1. All teams must be present 30 minutes before the start of the competition proper, failing to
do so will result in an instant disqualification. (Note: A dry run for the participating teams
shall be conducted a day before the competition proper and a workshop must first be
conducted intended for the organizing committee.)

2. The setup for the participating teams will be in this manner: A zoom link intended for the
main session will be provided. This link will be given to all participating teams and at the
same time all happenings within this main zoom session will be broadcasted during the

competition proper. This implies that turning on cameras of the participating teams while
turning off their microphones will be required and must be always followed. Additionally,
an exclusive zoom link for every participating team will also be provided. This exclusive
zoom link will serve as the platform/channel for the discussions of all participating teams,
and this will be facilitated by assigned personnel under the organizing committee. Within
this second zoom link/s, all participating teams are required to turn on both their cameras
and microphones.

3. A Google Form per question will be provided where all participating teams are required
to submit their answers only through this form.

4. The participating team must be in a single location preferably in the school or at their
chosen area during the competition proper.

5. A Google Drive link containing the problems will be sent and displayed on the Zoom
Meeting. All soft copies are in PDF format. This will mark the start of the competition
proper. (Note: Gmail addresses will be asked before the competition proper. This is to
ensure that only those accepted requests are allowed to access the Google Drive, this in
turn reduces the risk of possible cheating.)

H. COMPETITION PROPER

1. Three (3) Hours will be used for the competition proper.

2. The facilitator in each Zoom Exclusive Sessions will give the signal to start the competition.
An automated timer will be displayed in one of the committee screens.

3. A team member/s leaving their designated Exclusive Zoom session, as well as accessing
another Exclusive Zoom session other than their designated room is strictly prohibited
and will result in disqualification.

4. Access to other websites and online resources is prohibited. If caught doing so, it will
automatically result in disqualification.

5. All participants are expected to have a stable and accessible internet. If a disconnection
occurred, the competition timer continues.

6. For the participating teams, expect a 15-minute break time every after the 2 questions

7. The Datathon: Programming Competition 2022 will be a six-problem/item and three-


round competition. It consists of the following:

EASY ROUND (2 QUESTIONS) I/O

MODERATE ROUND (2 QUESTIONS) DECISION/SELECTION STRUCTURE

DIFFICULT ROUND (2 QUESTIONS) REPETITIVE/LOOP STRUCTURE

I. SUBMISSION OF FINAL ANSWER


There will only be a one-time submission of finals answers for each problem. Since the
submission will be through the use Google Forms, when the time is up, the Google Forms
will be closed. In submitting and attaching the files, (must be an executable format to avoid
complications during the compilation process) the file name must be in this format:
SCHOOL_CHAPTER_Problem_Number_#.

J. SCORING IN THE COMPETITION

1. A team shall get a maximum of 120 points. Scoring per answer is based on the table
provided below:

2. First to submit are also maximum points, this is to highlight the participants ability to
generate.
3. Teams are ranked according to their points earned. The top 3 teams will be the winners.
4. If two or more teams have the same points, a knockout round will commence where an
additional problem will be given to each team and shall be answered in 30 minutes.
5. If two or more teams still have the same score, ties are broken in favor of the team with
the earliest recorded time of submission in the knockout round.
6. Repeat the process until one team shall be hailed as the victor/winning team.

K. WINNERS OF THE COMPETITION

The top three (3) winners shall be named Champion, 1st Runner-Up, and 2nd Runner-Up
respectively. Winners shall receive their respective certificates and prizes.

L. BOARD OF JUDGES

1. The three (3) members of the Board of Judges shall be a Professional or a Registered
Electronics Engineer who are active members of the IECEP, Inc. They will also convene
to resolve any issue that may arise during the conduct of the competition.
2. Members of the Board of Judges must have expertise in Information and
Communications Technology as well as a forte in programming, especially on the
three (3) programming languages to be used in the competition proper.
3. Only the members of the Board of Judges are to check and review all the submitted files
and solutions.
