Learning Task 2
1. Explain your answer on the following topic:
Resolved: The Union of Church and State will be beneficial to the Philippines today.
The union of the church and the state will be very beneficial to the Philippines, as we all
know the church and the state are different sectors in our country even though the church is
abiding to the laws created by the state they still have their own law, that is their doctrines
which the church teach their parish people. There are some instance that the church and the
states disagree mostly about the law especially when it concerns moral ethics, for example the
RH Bill, these bill became controversial due to the objection of the church. The church think of
it as unethical step against the natural way of producing life in our country, thus giving
contraceptives to the youth and liberating them about the issue of teenage pregnancy which
adds up to our economic problem due to the large scale of poor family in our country is viewed
by the church as wrong. The church and the state clearly wants nothing less but the goodness
of our country and their subordinates but each views and opinions are very different.
So if ever the state and the church will unite then we could expect for a very peaceful and god-
fearing country.
Assessment Task 1
th

data retrieval chart to present your idea. Follow the example below:
In the 19th century the church leaders Today the church is now separated from
have a stronghold in the government, the state, the church has no say on any
when there are times that their word decisions the state made unless it

because only sea travel is available is now efficient
Learning Task 3
Explain the importance of highest, middle, and lower class during 19 th century.
ANS.
Social stratification in the 19th century is delineated, it set the specific role of an individual on the
society but this way of dividing the society only in favors those who are in the highest class for they
are given more power and privileges unlike those who belong to the lowest class.
As for the importance of each class, the highest class are those who runs the government and the
church such as Gobernador heneral, and Friars they are the ones who provide peace and order in the
community.
The middle class are the business persons, Filipinos with foreign blood. Most of them provide work
for some other Filipinos. There are pure blood or native Filipinos who also belong to the middle class.
While the lowest class or the Indios serves as the manpower and work force of the community like
Filipinos who are bound in polo y servicio in the time of the Spaniards.
Assessment Task 2
Identify the highest, middle, and lowest class of people in the Philippines in today’s
situation. Put the description below the table of your ideas.
Highest Class
The high-class people today were not so different than before,
they are still those people who hold high positions in the
community especially in the government, but unlike before
graft and corruption nowadays are more organized. They are
also consisting of business tycoons who owns a lot of sky
crappers and high rises in cities, T.V personalities such as
award-winning actors and actresses, singers and the likes and
those who works in the silver screen.
Middle Class
Middle class people these days are those business personalities,
but unlike those business tycoons they only have those average
size businesses such as family owned groceries. Those workers
who earned minimum salaries and have regular jobs such as
teacher, police offices People who belongs to this class was still
able to save a part of their daily earning after dividing it for
their daily expenses.
Lowest Class In Spanish times the lowest class of people are the Indios, but
now the lowest class of people are now classified as the
poorest of the poor, those family who are economically
challenge that sometimes could not afford even to eat three
times a day. In early times they are called Indios because
Spaniards thought by of Filipinos as dumb and poor but now
Filipinos are very literate and knowledgeable but the trials of
life forbid them from being prosperous in life.
Learning Task 4
1. Encircle the countries included during the opening of Suez Canal in the Philippines in 19 th
century?
2. Encircle those animals and raw products are not originated in the Philippines during
19th century
ANSWERS
1. The galleon trade on the Philippines drastically increase the economy of the Philippines, by
having different product imported and exported but what affect the economy most is the export,
those products we trade with other countries. The demand for our product increase with the
establishment of the galleon trade, but despite of the increase in the demand for our product
most Filipino still could not be compared to those in the side of the trading, the Spaniards, the
imposition of tax is not fair the tare Filipinos paid is much bigger than what the exporter from
other country are paying.
Despite of the galleons prosperous start it still had an ending, with the opening of the Suez
Canal opens the Philippines to traders from far of countries, now not just the Acapulco Mexico
is trading with the Philippines but also other countries that are members of Suez Canal
operations. A lot of different ships now anchor in the port of Philippines and on year 1815 the
galleon ended with the Mexico’s war for independence.
2. The Philippine economy in the 19 th century and the present was not so different we are still
inferior to other countries, when it comes to economic status Philippines is a third world
country. But now we could say these past years is much more prosperous than the 19 th
century, if its not because of the pandemic a lot of plans that will more develop our economy is
in plan by the government, now you could say that our present economy is slowly decreasing.
Learning Task 4

In Spanish period studying is hard for the Filipinos, only children from high- and middle-class
members of the society can afford to study in universities, it is even hard for them to learn
Spanish language because only limited to nothing at all are taught to them to avoid them from
understanding their plans even in the presence of Filipinos. But today Filipino children can
now study freely without any worries of discrimination because of the laws that provide fair
treatment to every Filipino student.

Assessment Task 4
1. How did Spanish-Filipino intermarriages affect the physical appearances of their
children? Can you identify them in your community? Howyou
can identify them?
Ans.
Filipino-Spanish-Spanish intermarriage affect the appearance of their parents mostly on facial
features, Filipinos have slightly round and flat nose while Spaniards have pointed nose. Native
Filipinos have a brown-color skin while Spaniards have light colored skin, and some even
have colored eyes. Fil-Spanish children more likely to adapt or acquire more characteristics
from their foreign parents so if ever we saw some children who have this characteristic they
might have foreign blood, not to mention that these characteristics could go many generations
later.
