Lesson 1: involving perimeter of squares and rectangles, triangles,

parallelograms, Solves routine and non-routine problems in real-life
situations and trapezoids

Let’s Understand (Study the Concept)

Read the problem.
One side of a square table measures 50 cm. Find its perimeter.

Let’s Apply
Read the problem. Then, answer the questions that follow.
1. A handkerchief measures 30 cm long and 25 cm wide. Carla wants to put lace
around it. How many centimeters of lace will she buy to decorate its sides?
What is asked?________________________________
What are the given facts? _________________________
What is the process needed? __________________________
What is the number sentence? ______________
What is the answer? __________________

Let’s Analyze
Solve the following problems.
1. A square lot is to be planted with santan plants all around. The side of the lot
measures 10 m. If plants will be planted 20 cm apart, how many plants must be
planted in all?
2. Lian uses 200 regular paces to walk around a square park. If one pace of Lian
measures 40 cm, what is the measure of each side of the park?
Lesson 2: Differentiates perimeter from area

Let’s Understand (Study the Concept)

What is the difference between perimeter and area?
Perimeter is the distance around the polygon. . Perimeter is used to find the
sides of a one- dimensional object or shape. It is found by adding the length of all
sides of a closed figure. The unit of measurement for the perimeter of an object is in
the normal or linear unit of length. For example a+b+c or sum of all sides of the
object. Perimeter indicates the boundary or rim of the particular object.
Area is the number of square units inside the polygon. The area is used to find
the space taken by two-dimensional objects. It is found by measuring the number of
squares that can fit into that particular shape or figure. The unit of measurement for
the area is in square units. For example cm2, m2, km2, etc. The area indicates the
space covered by a figure.
Here are the formula’s used in finding the perimeter and area of the given
polygons.

Let’s Apply
Solve for the perimeter and area. Each square is equivalent to 1square cm.

1. 2. 3.
Let’s Analyze
A. Fill in the table.
Name of Polygon Measurement Perimeter Area
1.Triangle S = 5cm
2.Square S = 12m
3.Rectangle L = 8cm;W =6cm
4.Parallelogram B=10m;H=12m
5.Trapezoid B1=8cm;b2=5cm;h=3cm

Lesson 3: Converts sq. cm to sq. m and vice versa.

Let’s Understand (Study the Concept)

Read the problem.
Carla and Lito are busy cleaning the playground of San Agustin Elementary
School. If the area of the school playground is 850, 000 sq. cm., what is its
equivalent to sq. m?

How do you solve the problem?

How to convert sq cm to sq m?
Study this.
10 000 sq cm = 1 sq m
850 000 sq cm = ______ sq m
Solution: 850 000 sq cm = 850 000 sq cm x 1sq m
10 000 sq cm

= 850 000 sq m
= 85 sq m
10 000

So therefore 850 000 sq cm = 85 sq m

How to convert sq m to sq cm?
Study this.
Cristina wanted to find out how many square centimeters there are in 14 sq m.
Remember:
1 sq m = 10 000 sq cm = 14 x 10 000 sq cm
Solution: 14 sq m = 14 sq m x 10 000 sq cm
1 sq m = 140 000 sq cm

So therefore 14 sq m = 140 000 sq cm

Let’s Apply
Change the following units as indicated.
1. 110 000 sq cm = ____________ sq m
2. 550 000 sq cm = _____________ sq m
3. 350 000 sq cm = _____________ sq m
4. 24 sq m = __________________ sq cm
5. 55 sq m = __________________ sq cm

). Let’s Analyze
Complete the table.
Area in square centimeters Area in square meters
1). 750 000
2). 450 000
3). 9
4). 80 000
5). 15

Let’s Try (Evaluation/Assessment)

Solve each problem.
________ 1. Your house has a floor area of 42 sq m. If you will clean your house, how
many square centimeters will you clean?
________ 2. The grassy lawn of Mr. Pascua measures 90 000 sq cm. What is the area
of his lawn in square meters?
3. What is 19 000 sq cm converted to sq m?
4. Liana has a long table in their living room with an area of 3 sq m. How many
square centimeters of cartolina does she need to completely cover the table?
5. A 6 sq m glass sliding door was broken. Ryan will temporarily replace it with
plywood. How many square centimeters of plywood does he need?
