II. INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this survey is to find out the extent of needs for contextualization of the
following learning content in Araling Panlipunan 10 (Mga Kontemporaryong Isyu). The results
of the survey will be used to identify the lessons that need to be contextualized. Please be assured
that your response will be held completely confidential.
For this survey, to contextualize, teachers must use authentic materials, and anchor teaching in
the context of learners’ lives. According to Mouraz and Leite, CONTEXTUALIZATION is a
prerequisite in addressing the content and organization of activities to be undertaken in the
classroom. Students' engagement in their schoolwork increases significantly when they are
taught, why they are learning the concepts and how those concepts can be used in real-world
contexts.
In other words, Contextualization is a process built on the recognition that some students learn
more effectively when they are taught in a hands-on, real-world context rather than in an
abstract manner (Baker, Hope, & Karandjeff, 2009; Bond, 2004; Predmore, 2005).
