ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – 2011

The Annual General Meeting of the Chapter was held on 27th May 2011 at
Gokulam Convention Centre, Kaloor, Kochi. The meeting was presided over
by Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman. The meeting started with a silent prayer.

The MoM of the AGM 2010, Annual Report for the year 2010-11 were
presented by Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary and the Audited Statement
of Accounts & the Balance Sheet for the year 2010-2011 were presented by
Mr. G. Anilkumar, Hon. Treasurer. The Annual General Meeting adopted the
above MoM, Annual Report, Audited Statement of Accounts & Balance Sheet
unanimously. The AGM also appointed M/s. Joseph & Co., Ernakulam as
Auditors for the year 2011-2012.

Immediately after the business proceedings of the AGM 2011 on 27 th May


2011, the Annual Day Celebrations at Gokulam Convention Centre, Kochi
took place. The Chairman Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai presided over the meeting.
Mr. K.K. Vijayakumar, Vice Chairman welcomed the guests and audience and
the Key Note address was delivered by Mr. R. Mohan Das, National
President, NIPM. The other speakers during the occasion were Mr. K.
Ramachandran Pillai, NIPM Ratna and CMD, NTC Limited & Mr. P Sudeep,
Southern Regional Vice President, NIPM.

Inauguration of Golden Jubilee Year Celebrations - The main attraction


of the Annual Day Celebrations were the inauguration of the Golden Jubilee
Year 1961-2011 and the same was inaugurated by Mr. R. Mohan Das,
National Vice President, NIPM by lighting the lamp.

Honouring of Past Chaiarmen & Hon. Secretaries - On the occasion of


the Golden Jubilee Year all Past Chairmen & Hon. Secretaries were honoured
by Mr. R. Mohan Das on behalf of NIPM Kerala Chapter by presenting
Ponnadas (Shawls) & Mementos.

Various other Awards to the achievers of events, Academic Excellence


Awards etc. were also presented during the Annual Day Celebrations

OPEN TRAINING PROGRAMMES

a 21-05-2011 - Legal Update 2011

NIPM Kerala Chapter organized its Annual Flagship Programme


“Legal Update 2011” at Hotel Presidency, Kochi. The Resource
Person was Prof. H.A.C. Poppen. Mr. K.K. Vijayakumar, Vice
Chairman welcomed the Guests and delegates and Dr. N. Vijayan
Pillai, Chairman inaugurated the programme. In the evening
session, a Panel Discussion was also held in which the Panel
Experts were Mr. M. N. Radhakrishna Menon, Industrial Tribunal &
Judge ESI Court, Mr. K. V. Mohandas, Retd. Addl. Labour
Commissioner (IR) & Mr. Benny P. Thomas, Advocate Kerala High
Court. Total 154 delegate from different organizations all over
Kerala and nearby States attended the programme. Mr. Saji V
Mathew, Hon. Secretary proposed Vote of Thanks in the evening.

b 21-10-2011 – Talk Session & Awareness Seminar on
“HATS’ (Harrison Assessment Talent Solutions)

NIPM Kerala Chapter, in association with ISTD Kochi Chapter &


NHRD Network Cochin Chapter& Harrison Assessments
International (Hong Kong) organized the above Talk Session &
Awareness Seminar on ‘HATS’ at Hotel Holiday Inn Cochin, Kochi
on 21-10-2011 from 6 pm to 9 pm. The Talk Session Facilitators
were Mr. Ravishankar K.K., Country Head & Principal Architect –
Behaviour & Performance Optimization (BPO) & Mr. Atul Sahu,
Principal Consultant from Harrison Assessments International. The
Hi Tea was sponsored by Harrison Assessments International. 77
delegates from various organizations participated in the above
Talk Session & Seminar.

c 17-04-2012 – One Day Workshop

NIPM Kerala Chapter organized a One Day Workshop on “Neuro


Linguistic Programming (NLP) for Business & Functional Leaders”
at Hotel Presidency on 17 th April 2012. Ms. Reena R. Jabran, Chief
Life Coach and Mentor, Renaissance, Hyderabad was the Resource
Person. 34 Delegates from various Industrial sectors all over Kerala
attended the above Workshop.

FAMILY GET-TO-GATHERS/CELEBRATIONS

a Annual Day Celebrations

On the occasion of the Annual Day Celebrations on 27 th May


2011, NIPM Family Forum Members and Children presented
various colourful cultural programmes. Family Forum also
organized Dance, Musical programme & Magic Show presented by
Cochin Thrilling Moments. The Annual Fellowship and Dinner for
NIPM Members & Families was also organized to mark the
occasion.

b Onam Celebrations
Kerala’s Harvest Festival “ONAM” has been celebrated with great

enthusiasm at Hotel Highway Garden, Kochi on 18 th September 2011.
Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, NIPM Kerala Chapter delivered Onam
Greeting Message. Various games/competitions were organized for the
family members and children in association with the HR Team of Apollo
Tyres Ltd. The main attraction of the programme was the musical
concert by Cochin Manzoor and a Magic Show. The Onam celebration
was concluded with Fellowship and traditional Onam Sadhya (Lunch).

OTHER ACTIVITIES

a Academic Excellence Awards

During the AGM 2011, Academic Excellence Awards to the children


in respect of Zachariah Memorial Award for Ist Rank Holder in
MHRM conducted by M.G. University, K.R.C. Nayar Memorial
Award for 2nd Rank Holder in MHRM conducted by M.G. University
were presented. M. Sulaiman Memorial Academic Execellence
Awards for Xth, XIIth & Degree were also presented to the
children of NIPM members on the occasion.

b Induction Programme for B-School Students

11-06-2011 – Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies (RCBS), Kochi


has organized an Induction Programme titled “Deeksharambham”
for new batch of MBA / MHRM Students at their premises on 11 th
June 2011. Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman & Mr. Saji V Mathew,
Hon. Secretary, NIPM Kerala Chapter attended the above function
and addressed the new batch of students and briefed about NIPM
activities. A Power Point Presentation was also given to them
showing various activities of NIPM and also the benefits for
becoming Student Member of NIPM. Representatives from other
professional bodies like, Kerala Management Association, NHRD
Network etc. also attended the function

c Southern Regional Conference – 2011


5th to 7th Aug. 2011 - The Southern Regional Conference 2011 was
organized by NIPM Mysore Chapter from 5th to 7th August 2011 at
Mysore. From Kerala Chapter Dr. N Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, Mr.
Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary, Mr. P.J. Joy, Past Chairman, Mr.
Johnson Mathew, Past Hon. Secretary & currently the NC Member,

Mr. G. Anilkumar, EC Member & Mr. Anish Aravind, EC Member
were attended the said Conference.

d Kerala Industrial, IT & Commercial Policy - 2011


Interaction with Sri. P.K. Kunhalikutty, Hon’ble Minister
(Industries, IT & Urban Affairs), Govt. of Kerala.

12th August 2011 - As per directives of on’ble Minister (Industries,


IT & Urban Affairs), The Additional Chief Secretary Sri T.
Balakrishnan IAS, Department of Industries & Commerce sent us
the Draft Industrial & Commercial Policy 2011 of the State
Government of Kerala for our suggestions / comments. Our
suggestions / comments on the draft policy was sent to them and
accordingly a meeting was convened by Mr. T. Balakrishnan,
Additional Chief Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department on
12th August 2011 at Hotel Avenue Centre, Kochi which was chaired
by Mr. P.K. Kunhalikutty, Hon’ble Minister (Industries, IT & Urban
Affairs) to discuss various points. In addition to NIPM (Kerala
Chapter) various other organizations were also invited for the said
meeting. Representing NIPM Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman & Mr.
M.D. Varghese, Past Hon. Addl. Secretary & present Executive
Committee Member attended the above meeting with the
Industries Minister.

Based on the discussions during the above meeting on 12 th August


2011, we have again sent our suggestions / comments to The
Additional Chief Secretary, Industries & Commercial Department
for incorporating the same in the new Industrial, IT & Commercial
Policy 2011.

e HR Club–“Presidio” at Albertian Institute of Management


26th August 2011 - Albertian Institute of Management, Kochi is an
Institutional Member of NIPM which is a Management Institute
conducting MBA HR course along with various other courses. The
MBA Batch has formed HR Club named as “Presidio” which is
conducting student seminars, arranging guest talks, organizing
conferences on various themes relevant to the needs of next
generation budding HR Managers. The Inaugural Function of the
HR Club “ Presidio” was held at the College premises on 26 th
August 2011 at 9.30 am and Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, NIPM
Kerala Chapter inaugurated the HR Club. The other speakers on
the occasion were Mr. P. Premchand, Fellow NIPM, Past Chairman,
Kerala Chapter & Past Southern Regional Vice President, NIPM,
Mr. Johnson Mathew, Past Hon. Secretary, Kerala Chapter &
currently National Council Member, NIPM & Mr. Jayaraj Chakyat,
Executive Committee Member, & Chairman, Bulletin Committee of

NIPM Kerala Chapter.

f 13-10-2011 Tribute to Steve Jobs

NIPM Kerala Chapter, in association with ISTD Kochi Chapter &


NHRD Network Cochin Chapter organized a programme Titled
Remembering a Technology Innovator – a Memorial on Steve Jobs
at IMA House, Kaloor, Kochi on 13th Oct. 2011. The Panelists were
Mr. A. Balakrishnan, Chief Technology Officer, Geojit BNP Paribas
Financial Services Ltd., Mr. Sunil Zachariah, MD, Futuristic
Consultants Pvt. Ltd. & Mr. Pradeep Palalzhi, Director & COO, EC
Media International Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore. The Modoerator of the
progtramme was Mr. S.R. Nair, MD, Team Frontline Limited &
Chairman, ISTD Kochi Chapter. Dr. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, NIPM
Kerala Chapter welcomed the guess and audience and Mr. M.S.
Sreekumar, President, NHRD Network, Cochin Chapter proposed
Vote of Thanks.

g 11-11-2011 – NIPM Business Quiz 2011

NIPM Kerala Chapter in association with Binani Zinc Limited &


SCMS Cochin organized NIPM Business Quiz 2011 for Ghanshyam
Binani Ever Rolling Trophy at SCMS Cochin Campus on 11th
November 2011 from 1.30 pm onwards. 12 Teams for various
Business School all over Kerala participated in the competitions out
of which SIX teams qualified for final rounds after the preliminary
rounds. The Quiz Master was Mr. Arun A.S. The following are
the winners of the Quiz competition:

Ist Prize – Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies, Kochi consisting of


Ms. Fathima Mohammed and Mr. Yazin T Azad

Ist Runner-up – Berchmans Institute of Management Studies,


Changanachery consisting of Mr. Jijo Johnson and Mr. Joseph
Daniel

IInd Runner-up – CUSAT, School of Manaagement Studies, Kochi


consisting f Mr. Rijo Gratius and Mr. Rakesh K.

Mr. K. Suresh, Hon. Addl. Secretary, Kerala Chapter welcomed the


guests/team members/audience and Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai,
Chairman, Kerala Chapter inaugurated the function. Mr. Sanjeev
P. Thomas, President, Binani Zinc Ltd. delivered valedictory

address and distributed Cash prizes of Rs.10,000/-, Rs.7,500/- and
Rs.5,000/- to the Ist Prize winning team / Ist runner-up and 2 nd
runner-up teams respectively and Ghanshyam Binani Ever Rolling
Trophy to the Ist prize winning team. Dr. Raman Nair, Director,
SCMS Cochin also spoke on the occasion. Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon.
Secretary, Kerala Chapter proposed vote of thanks.

h 19-11-2011 – NIPM Southern Regional Business Quiz


2011

NIPM Kerala Chapter hosted the NIPM Southern Regional Business


Quiz 2011 on 19th November 2011 in association with De Paul
Institute of Science & Technology at their premises at De Paul
Nagar, Angamaly South (Ernakulam District). Mr. Johnson
Mathew, NIPM National Council Member welcomed the guests/,
participating teams/audience and Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman,
Kerala Chapter inaugurated the function. 6 Teams from Southern
Region i.e. 2 Teams from Mysore Chapter, 2 Teams from Madurai
Chapter and 2 Teams from Kerala Chapter participated in the Quiz
competition. The Quiz Master was Mr. Angelo Mathew, Asst.
Professor, School of Management, TKM Engineering College,
Kollam. The following are the winners:

Ist Prize – Thiagarajara School of Management, Madurai consisting


of Mr. V. Raja and Mr. E. Vishwesh

Ist Runner-up – Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies, Kochi


consisting of Ms. Fathima Mohammed and Mr. Yazin T Azad

IInd Runner-up – Berchmans Institute of Management Studies,


Changanachery consisting of Mr. Jijo Johnson and Mr. Joseph
Daniel.

The Cash Award of Rs.20,000/- and Certificate of Merit was


presented to the Ist Prize Winning team by Mr. P. Sudeep, Sothern
Regional Vice President. The Cash Award of Rs.15,000/- &
Certificate of Merit to the Ist Runner up Team was presented by
Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary, NIPM Kerala Chapter and Cash
Award of Rs.10,000/- and Certificate of Merit to the IInd Runner-
up team was presented by Fr. George Elenjikal Puthentharayil,
Vice Principal, De Paul Institute of Science & Technology. Prof.
Joseph Chacko, Director, De Paul proposed Vote of Thanks. The
programme was sponsored by State Bank of India, Trivandrum,
Reliance Retail, BPCL (Kochi Refinery), Bharat Sanchar Nigam
Limited, Trivandrum, Centre for Management Development,

Trivandrum, & Fluid Control Research Institute, Palakkad.

i NIPM Student’s Forum

We are pleased to inform tha NIPM Kerala Chapter has formed a


Student’s Forum at De Paul Institute of Science & Technology,
Angamaly. 79 Students of MBA & MHRM 2011 batch have been
enrolled as NIPM Student Members. The Inauguration of the
Student’s Forum was done by Sri P. Sudeep, Southern Regional
Vice President, NIPM during the valedictory function on 19 th
November 2011 immediately after the Southern Regional Business
Quiz held at De Paul.

For the benefit of the Student Forum Members at De Paul we are


planning to organize a two hour Interaction by NIPM HR
professionals with the students in the near future. We are also
planning to conduct a 1 hour Lecture about an HR related topic by
any one of our HR Professional at the College Campus for the
Student’s Forum every month.

For the benefit of NIPM Student Members and to encourage these


students we have provided a “Student’s Corner” column in our
Quarterly Publication “Kerala Personnel” to publish interesting
articles / write-ups / paintings etc. written by Member students.

k Annual National Conference 2011 & Best Chapter Award

Dr. N. Vijayan Pillai, Chairman, Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary


along with many other members attended the 30th Annual National
Conference from 8th to 10th December 2011 hosted by NIPM
Visakhapatnam.

Best Chapter Award - During the Award Ceremony on 8th


December 2011 NIPM Kerala Chapter Office Bearers received the
Best Chapter Award 2010-2011 under Category C from the
National President. This is the 4 th consecutive year that NIPM
Kerala Chapter has been adjudged as Best Chapter.

During the National Council Meeting held on 9th December 2011,
NIPM Kerala Chapter Chairman & Hon. Secretary made a
presentation about Kerala Chapter strengths, Infrastructure
available etc. and put forth our claim for giving the opportunity to
Kerala Chapter for hosting the 31st Annual National Conference
2012 at Kochi. Earlier we had sent the written proposal also in this
regard to National Council. After long discussions, National Council
decided to give the opportunity to Kerala Chapter to host the event
at Kochi during September 2012. Kerala Chapter is getting this
opportunity after long 19 years.

m 11-01-2012 - HR Fraternity Meet

Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies, Kochi organized an HR


Fraternity Meet & Executive Talk delivered by Prof. Satish
Deshpande, Associate Dean of Business Administration, Western
Michigan University, U.S.A. on the theme “Managing HR in a Global
Downturn” at Rajagiri Business School, Kakkanad on 11 th January
2012. During the occasion Mr. Saji V Mathew, Hon. Secretary,
NIPM Kerala Chapter along with many Senior Members attended
the function. Mr. Saji V Mathew also presented the Memento and
Cash Prize of Rs.50,000/- of NIPM National Business Quiz 2011
conducted at Visakhapatnam to the IInd Runner-up team members
consisting of Ms. Fathima Mohammed and Mr. Yazin T. Azad from
Rajagiri Centre for Business Studies. The programme was followed
by and dinner at Hotel Park Residency, Kakkanad, Kochi

Rotary Club of Cochin Metropolis in association with NIPM Kerala
Chapter, Binani Zinc Limited, CII, ICAI & IMA organized the 2 nd Corporate

The Rotary Binani Zinc Awards were presented during the function held
on 21st Jan. 2012 at CGH Earth, Wellington, Kochi along with the SCRIPT
2012 International Short film festival on socially relevant themes with

a NIPM Calicut Group

12-10-2011 - NIPM Calicut Group under Kerala Chapter


onganized the Leadership Skill Development programme titled
“Leader Manager at Hotel East Avenue, Nadakkavuu, Calcut on 12 th
Oct. 2011. The Resource Person was Mr. Anil Kumar from Masters
Staff Training Centre, Calicut. The Calicut Group has selected two
participants who performed extremely well in the programme and
they were presented with Leader Manager Award. The Award was
presented by Sri P.V. Gangadharan, Second Vice President,
Federation of International Film Producers Association who was the
Chief Gust of the function.

b NIPM Kottayam Group

24-03-2012 - NIPM Kottayam Group organized the NIPM Kerala


Chapter Executive Committee Meeting at Fairmont Hotel in
association with The Malayala Manorama Co. Ltd.

Kottayam Group also organized a Felicitation function in which Mr.


K.P. Philip was facilitated on his being conferred with Chevalier title
by Syrian Orthodox Sabha on 24th March 2012.

The Fellowship and Dinner was hosted by The Malayala Manorama


Co. Ltd., Kottayam.

c Alappuzha Group

09-06-2012 – Alappuzha Chapter of NIPM Kerala Chapter hosted


the Executive Committee Meeting of the Chapter for the month of
June 2012 on 9th June 2012 at Hotel Prince.

NCON 2012 - Alappuzha Group have also hosted the NCON 2012
Road Show on the same day at Alappuzha. Many HR professionals
in and around Alappuzha attended the Road show which was a
grand success.

NEW INITIATIVES

Recruitment & Selection of Manpower for Kerala State Owned


Enterprises.

a. As in the last year, we have during the beginning of this year


conducted Written Test for around 8500 candidates for one of the
State Co-operative Sector in Kochi successfully and completed the
process well within the stipulated time schedule. We take this
opportunity to express our sincere thanks to the organization for
giving us this opportunity and also thank all members and well
wishers for extending their whole hearted support in completing
the task successfully.

b 31st ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE 2012 – NCON


2012
As you are aware, NIPM Kerala Chapter has been conferred with
the opportunity to organize the 31st Annual National
Conference 2012 at KOCHI. We have been embarked into
this new initiative after a gap of 19 years and we feel it is the
prestige of our Chapter and each member to make this event a
grand success by our whole-hearted involvement and valuable

The Annual National Conference will be held at Le Meridian


International Convention Centre, Kochi from 6th to 8th
September 2012
