PETI Checklist

This document is a checklist for portable electrical equipment and temporary electrical installations (PETI). It contains 19 items to check including valid permits, inspections by competent personnel, registration as an electrical contractor, periodic inspections of generators and tools, use of weatherproof fittings, residual current devices of the proper rating, cable management, plug and socket types, circuit breaker protection, earthing of installations, signage on distribution boards, condition of cables and sockets, and periodic testing of residual current devices. Records of inspections and testing should be maintained.

PORTABLE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT AND TEMPORARY ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION (PETI) CHECKLIST

1. PETI PTW Tier 1 & Tier 2 approved and valid.
2. The installation and inspection are done by appointed competent personnel
according to installation’s requirement i.e: level, type of competent
personnel Chargemen (energizing), Wireman (three-phase), Wireman
(single-phase). Records of inspection are available.
3. Registration to Energy Commissions (EC) as electrical contractor at the
worksite is valid.
4. Generator set, portable tools, distribution board, temporary lighting
inspected periodically (minimum every month) by certified competent
person and tagged with a sticker.
5. All portable lightings are permanently fixed at high or out-of-reach level.
6. Electrical fittings for outdoor facilities or temporary power installation which
may expose to the wet condition are weather-proof and waterproof types.
7. The installation in a place of public and wet area, Residual Current Device
(RCD) having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 10
milliamperes (mA).
8. An installation where hand-held equipment, generator set, apparatus or
appliance that is accessible by worker, a residual current device having a
rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 milliamperes (mA).
9. No modification of hand-held equipment, apparatus or appliance from
original manufacturer’s specifications.
10. For installation other than item (7,8), residual current device having a rated
residual operating current not exceeding 100 milliamperes (mA).
11. All power supply cable are suspended 3 meters from the floor.
12. Plugs, sockets, and couplers are industrial type complying with IEC 60309
or Ex type where applicable.
13. One Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) to supply maximum at 3 socket
outlets. One socket outlet only supply one tools/equipment.
14. The generating set are equipped with an output circuit breaker providing
overcurrent, overload and earth fault protection.
15. All temporary installation (i.e. Distribution Board, Generator Set, etc) are
effectively earthed and tested by competent person.
16. Distribution board are provided with “DANGER” sign at front panel, Person
In Charge name, contact, picture, inspection tag, schematic diagram and
lockable.
17. All cables, sockets, plugs physically are in good condition.
18. The Residual Current Devices (ELCB/RCCB/RCD/ELR) are tested
periodically. Records of testing are available.
19. Electrical schematic diagram available for all temporary electrical
installation
