Beauty delights the senses, and because art is characterized by its attractiveness,
man becomes conscious of the beauty of his surroundings. One example is when we see a
painting of Mother Nature's gorgeous scenery. Because of its beauty, an inner energy
arises inside us to preserve and maintain it. This suggests that the beauty of art brings us
pleasure, which makes us value it.
2. Utilitarian function
When art brings people comfort, convenience, and pleasure, it fulfills a utilitarian
function. It provided basic necessities such as clothes, food, and shelter, and so many
man-made things that made life easier and more convenient. For example, the ballpen
that I am using right now makes writing faster and better. Art not only enhances man's
life, but it also aids in the beautification of Mother Nature.
3. Cultural function
Art acts as a gateway to diverse people's talents, skills, views, habits, and
traditions. Art contributes to the preservation and transmission of people's cultures from
one era to the next. For example, we may learn about our distant ancestors' cultures by
studying their artworks, such as cave paintings. Its huge ocean of information makes man
more knowledgeable, making life more lasting and fulfilling.
4. Social function
When art brings people together, it performs a social function. It is also when it
promotes unity and healthy relationships among individuals. As a result, individuals grow
more understanding and may be able to establish a more peaceful community. Art can
bring the love in every person’s heart.
5. Political function
Art fosters and strengthens a feeling of identity as well as an intellectual
connection to certain political viewpoints, political groups, and leaders. Artworks
containing political themes criticize the current condition of society, whether on a local,
national, or worldwide scale.
6. Educational function
There are artworks that use symbolism and signs to convey knowledge, and this is
the educational function of art. Through our ability to think, we can gain an ocean of
knowledge from art, even if it does not contain a single word.
7. Spiritual function
There are works of art that convey spiritual beliefs about destiny as governed by a
divine creator, as well as conventions, ceremonies, and rituals about the purpose of life.
