Module 3 - Lesson 3.1 - Assessment

The document contains an assessment for a lesson on the circulatory and respiratory system. It includes questions about the veins and arteries, cardiac output, and the importance of warm up for the cardiovascular system. It also provides a sample calculation for a student's cardiac output after jogging.

Note: Provide a separate sheet in Microsoft word/PDF file for your answers on the questions
with the following format; Normal margins, Portrait, A4 size, Justify, 1.5 double line
spacing with Complete name, Course, Date, Class Schedule, Module/Lesson #, and Lesson
Title.

1. Veins that transports blood towards the heart, pulmonary artery brings back the blood
from the lungs to the heart and from the body to the heart is called Vena Cava.

2. What is the value of the resting cardiac output that is typical to an individual? 5000
ml/min

3. _ Arterioles _ provides the link between arteries and capillaries.

4. __ Veins_ helps keep the blood moving and is often located within muscles or between
muscle and bones.

5. Lactic Acid System provides more ATP than the ATP-PC energy system (2 ATP for
every one glycogen molecule).

Critical Thinking Questions

1. Discuss the importance of warm up in the cardiovascular system.

- Beginning any exercise with a brief warm-up period is necessary. Warming up will
help ready our body for workouts, and our cardiovascular system begins to start working
faster with the kick. It also makes it possible to steadily increase the temperature of the
body and increase blood pressure to stimulate muscles.

2. Calculate your own Cardiac Output after a jogging activity for about 15min and above.
Explain how you come up with the value.
Given:
Heart Rate (HR) = 78 bpm
Strike Volume (ST) = SV=CO/HR
= 5000/78
= 64.1
C0= SVxHR
= 64.1x 65
=4.166.5 ml/min or 4.1 l/min
To calculate my cardiac output, I followed the formula given in the discussion file.
All I need to completely substitute the variables in the formula, but I still need to get
the Stroke volume. To get my stroke volume using this formula SV=CO/HR I used
the typical amount of cardiac output converted from l/min to ml/min which is 5000
ml/min. Then I divided it by my heart rate which is 78 (5000/78) which give me the
answer of 64.1. Now to calculate the cardiac output using this formula:
C0= SVxHR
= 64.1 x 65
CO =4,166.5 ml/min or 4.1 l/min
