For the facilitator

This module will help you in facilitating learning in identifying and generating
patterns. More so, by using this module, you can help learners understand, analyze.

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the Mathematics 9 Self-Learning Module (SLM) on Illustrating the Six
Trigonometric Ratios.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and
circumstances.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this self-
learning module. You also need to keep track of the learners’ progress while allowing them
to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the self-learning module.
Set Targets

This module provides you with activities that will help you learn how to demonstrate
understanding of key concepts of quadratic functions

Analyze Concepts

The word trigonometry comes from the ancient Greek word trigon, meaning triangle,
and metron, meaning measure, and the study of trigonometry involves triangle measurement.

Right Triangle Trigonometry is often used to find the length of one side or the measure
of an acute angle of a right triangle.

The sides of a triangle can also be named according to their relationship with a given
angle. Recall that the hypotenuse is always the side opposite the right angle. Hence, it is the
longest side of a right triangle. The side opposite an angle is called an opposite side and the side
which is also a side of the angle is called an adjacent side.

Consider the right triangle ABC, with ∠C as it’s right angle.

Take note that in a Right Triangle Trigonometry, these relationships do not apply to
∠C, the right angle.

In any right triangle, we can define six trigonometric ratios. These ratios are the ratios of the
sides of a right triangle. These are as follows:

At the case of csc θ, sec θ, and cot θ, notice that these are just the reciprocals of the
of the trigonometric ratios sin θ, cos θ and tan θ, respectively.

Let us try the following examples applying the concept of trigonometric ratio.

Example 1: Given θ, an angle in a right triangle and sin θ = , find the remaining

trigonometric ratios of θ.
Solution:

If sin θ = = , then the positions of θ and the given lengths are shown in the

Solving for the third side:
