False negative HCV Ab test results may be obtained in patients with acute or recent HCV infection (<3 months from time
of exposure) due to time needed for seroconversion (about 8 weeks).

False positive results can be obtained due to presence of heterothallic antibodies in serum (due to routine animal exposure)
or cross reactivity with other viral infections and disease.
