G 7 Magnetism WS

The document is a worksheet about magnets that contains 4 questions. The first question asks students to state what would happen if different pairs of metal bars (permanent magnet, unmagnetized iron, tin) were placed end to end. The second question asks students to describe the differences between the magnetic properties of soft iron and steel. The third question asks students to draw the magnetic field lines around a bar magnet. The fourth question asks students to identify which metal could be used to make a permanent magnet.

Worksheet-1

SUBJECT: PHYSICS DATE: GRADE/DIV: 7

OBJECTIVE: To understand the properties of magnets.
SKILL: APPLICATION AND CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

(a) A student has four similar metal bars. Two of the bars are permanent magnets, one is a
3 bar of unmagnetized iron and the other is a bar of tin.

In four different experiments, the bars are placed end-to-end in pairs, as shown in Fig. 3.1.

Fig. 3.1

State what happens to each pair of metal bars. Choose from the words

attract, repel , no effect.

You may use each word once, more than once or not at all.

(b) The magnetic properties of soft iron and steel are different. Describe the differences.

4 (a) Fig. 4.1 shows a bar magnet.

On Fig. 4.1, draw TWO lines to show the shape of the magnetic field around the bar magnet.
Include at least one arrow in each line to show the direction of the field.

(b) Which of these metals could be used to make a permanent magnet? Tick one box.
