Introduction

The main objective of this essay is to make value judgments of the various methods
used for learning the English language.

The objective of this course, however, is as clear as will be immediately argued. In

some cases, it could have as a goal to highlight the importance of language teachers in
training being aware of the development that the discipline has undergone or that, by
studying different methods, they may one day enrich their professional practice by
combining elements (strategies, techniques, etc.) or others) of various methods.

However, such a theoretical study may be no more than a intellectual exercise with few
pragmatic applications in the professional practice of language teachers.

Presentation

Teachers experience every day in the teaching process the desire to find the ideal,
effective and also appropriate method, but as we know there is no such method since
each place or specific area has its own social context, so it is recommended to teachers
change methods and have greater attachment to the performance of their tasks,
dynamics and class activities taking into account the reality and needs of the students
within their social context.

From what is known, pedagogues and all those who venture into the field of teaching
have, practiced, and used various methods throughout history, as well as for empirical
or research reasons, developed more effective methods in order to perfect its forms of
teaching, for which I mention the methods or approaches that I consider to be of greater
importance and transcendence, and that have emerged with respect to the teaching of the
foreign language:

“The Grammar translation method”, “The Direct Method”, “the reading method”, “The
Audio-Lingual Method”.

Developing
Direct method. -

In this method, the teacher has to set up a good learning environment, which is already
hard work, because the students have to be comfortable and relaxed and ask and answer
questions. While the teacher provides information to the students about the foreign
language and the student is to carry out activities such as games and simulations without
having to carry them out in the foreign language until they are ready. In teaching
English through the direct method, the four skills necessary to master a language (being
able to read, write, understand and speak), although special emphasis is placed on oral
expression and pronunciation.

The Audio-Lingual Method. -

The human being begins to interact with the world that surrounds him from the moment
he swims for this reason I think that any type of method to awaken to the maximum any
interactive process that facilitates learning for that reason I consider that the
audiolingual method consists in that the teacher acts as a moderator and guide of the
educational dialogue he decides the message that he wishes to transmit and the channel
through which the communication will be carried out, either through dialogue exercises
of repetition substitution and transformation

Finally, this method can be ensured by memorizing dialogues and performing repetition
exercises. The presentation of content through the oral channel precedes the use of the
written channel. In this method, oral audio training is essential to develop the rest of the
skills. As in the case of the oral method, the audiolingual method does not take into
account the individual characteristics of the student, which reduces the level of
interactivity that can be established between the student and the teacher or between
students.

The Grammar translation method. –

The grammar translation method is a foreign language teaching method derived from
the classical (sometimes called traditional) method of teaching Greek and Latin. In
grammar translation classes, students learn grammar rules and then apply those rules by
translating sentences between the target language and the native language. Advanced
students may be required to translate entire texts word for word. The method has two
main goals: to enable students to read and translate literature written in the target
language, and to promote the general intellectual development of students.

The reading method. –

In this method, students focus on identifying meaning, understanding text quickly, and
actively reading. The reading approach also has some weaknesses and some benefits. It
is a fact that no approach or method is perfect, but the important thing that cannot be
ignored is that reading is a very important thing. By reading, students will gain many
things and will be able to understand everything related to language learning, especially
English. Therefore, it is important to know how to read effectively by using the reading
focus.

Conclusion. -

To conclude, I can say that the methods mentioned can be used in the learning process
of teaching the English language because they complement each other, none of the
methods mentioned are complete, but they can be interrelated with each other to achieve
excellent results.
