INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1

MCFG SETUP
For proper installation and operation of software, please follow these steps. All setup files
are located on MEDICOP CD media. Software require PC with Windows XP or later and
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2.

STEP CAN-BUS INTERFACE

1 Install IXXAT driver (USB-to-CAN),

“vci_3_2_2_2098.exe”.

Connect USB-CAN interface to PC.

Connect CANBUS connector to supply
connection board on MEDICAN (red
mark on picture of supply connection
board). If the interface is connected
properly, a green LED (USB) should be
turned on at interface.

Before we continue with installation the green LED (USB) must be turned on. If the red LED
is on, then there are problems with USB-CAN driver. Restart PC, reconnect interface.

SUPPLY CONNECTION BOARD CAN-BUS INTERFACE

2 Install Run-time engine “[Link]”.

3 Install MCFG configurator “[Link]” in “MCFG_installer” folder.

4 Run the program and perform working test for MCFG.

When we run MCFG program, we have to wait for the green light in box ONLINE to
appear.

STEP

1 Select CONFIG tab (tab is

selected by default when we
start the program).

2 Press DISCOVER button.

The serial number and SID

number of MEDICAN alarm
should appear.

3 TIMEOUT (time for

discovering the MEDICAN
alarms) is factory set to
300ms.

If we have more than 20

MEDICAN alarms on
network, we have to enlarge
TIMEOUT to 1000ms.

SID and serial number should appear in the section that is shown on the next picture.

STEP

When MCFG is discovering

alarms, the green (CAN)
LED on USB-CAN
interface is blinking. This
means that data exchange
is in progress.

If the SID number is larger

than 99, we have to press
tab “DROP DOWN” to see
complete serial number.

In case that serial and SID number don’t appear, something is not right with: connections,
MEDICAN alarm or drivers for interface. On USB-CAN interface the red LED is on.

TROUBLESHOOTING

1 Close the MCFG program and all other software that potentially use interface
driver (MiniMon from IXXAT).

2 Check power supply on MEDICAN alarm.

3 Check all connections: PC – USB-CAN interface – MEDICAN alarm.

After we have eliminated problems, we again run MCFG program and repeat the process
of discovering the MEDICAN alarms.

With configuration software MCFG we can change:

1 Configurations (number of gases, alarm settings…)

2 Languages

SID numbers – UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS (chapter about SID changes)

IMPORTANTE NOTICE

Because every customer can have his own requests about configurations, config
files are send to the individual customer by e-mail or CD (as customer wants).
When updating configurations we suggest that only one MEDICAN alarm is on the
CAN network. This way we eliminate possibility to update the wrong one.

Before we uploading new configurations, we should erase current settings.

Follow the steps:

STEP

1 Select CONFIG tab.

2 Press DISCOVER button.

The serial number and SID

number of MEDICAN alarm
should appear.

3 Select correct SID and serial

number.

4 Press ERASE CONFIGURATION

button.

3 Confirm erasing with OK.

After we confirm succesfull

erasing MEDICAN alarm will
restart and the LCD on alarm will
be empty.

4 Disconnect CAN-BUS cable and main power supply from supply connection board of MEDICAN.

IMPORTANTE NOTICE

We have to individually ERASE CONFIGURATION on each MEDICAN alarm we

want to load new complete configuration.
Only in case when updating part of configuration you don’t erase existing one.

Follow the steps:

1 Select CONFIG tab.

2 Press DISCOVER button.

The serial number and SID

number of MEDICAN alarm
should appear.

3 Select correct SID and serial

number.

4 Browse on PC for new

Configuration file.

5 Press UPDATE button.

On the bottom of MCFG window

we can observe updating
progress.

After the updating progress is

complete, MEDICAN alarm will
automatically restart.

6 Disconnect CAN-BUS cable and main power supply from supply connection board of MEDICAN.

IMPORTANTE NOTICE

During uploading green Running button is on. If RED Failed button appear you
need to power OFF/ON alarm and repeat uploading procedure.

Follow the steps:

STEP

1 Select CONFIG tab.

2 Press DISCOVER button.

The serial number and SID

number of MEDICAN alarm
should appear.

3 Select correct SID and serial

number.

4 Select FONT tab.

5 Browse on PC for new

LANGUAGE file.

6 Press UPLOAD GRAPHICAL

DATA button.

On the bottom of MCFG

window we can observe
updating progress.

While uploading is in
progress, don’t touch
MEDICAN’ buttons.

8 Disconnect CAN-BUS cable and main power supply from supply connection board of MEDICAN.

IMPORTANTE NOTICE

During uploading green Running button is on. If RED Failed button appear you
need to power OFF/ON alarm and repeat uploading procedure.
After we uploaded language file we have to switch to next menu on MEDICAN
alarm - to refresh changes on alarm screen.

Follow the steps:

1 Select CONFIG tab.

2 Press DISCOVER button.

The serial number and SID

number of MEDICAN alarm
should appear.

3 Select correct SID and serial

number.

4 Select PROGRAM tab.

5 Browse on PC for new

FIRMWARE file.

6 Press PROGRAM button to

start upload.

Upload progress last

approximately 3 minutes.

After that the MEDICAN

alarm needs 1-2 minutes to
reset itself.

6 Disconnect CAN-BUS cable and main power supply from supply connection board of MEDICAN.

IMPORTANTE NOTICE

During uploading green Running button is on. If RED Failed button appear
you need to power OFF/ON alarm and repeat uploading procedure.

HOW TO LOOK FOR THE FIRMWARE VERSION ON MEDICAN ALARM 3

Follow the steps:

STEP

1 Disconnect main power supply on supply connection board of MEDICAN alarm.

2 Press and HOLD the SERVICE MUTE BUTTON on the back side of alarm display modul. At the
same time connect main power supply back on the MEDICAN supply connection board.

3 We entered the service menu where the version of FIRMWARE is displayed in first line.

ABOUT SID NUMBERS 4

CHANGES
SID number is a name of individual MEDICAN alarm – STATION ID. A unique name (SID)
is assigned by MEDICOP.

SID numbers have very important role in MEDICAN alarms network. It is very important
that each alarm have its own SID number. If two or more alarms in CAN network will have
the same SID number, a problem will appear at data exchange.

In case those MEDICAN alarms are NOT CONNECTED in CAN network, they can have
the same SID numbers.

When we have COPY of individual MEDICAN alarm, we can talk about MOTHER –
DAUGHTER relationship. The original alarm is MOTHER, copy is a DAUGHTER.
Daughter will show the same parameters that are shown by mother. In this kind of
configuration it is important not to change MOTHER’S SID.

CHANGING SID NUMBERS

KIMPORTANTE NOTICE

We can change SID number only with the knowledge of

manufacturer – MEDICOP.

CAN network We can change SID number with number that no other MEDICAN
SID number signalization have.

(If we want to change SID for the second time or on primary

(MEDICOP) number, or some other number, first we have to reset that
alarm with disconnecting the power supply. Otherwise, CAN network
will not work.) THIS APPLIES FOR FIRMWARE VERSIONS BEFORE
VERSION 2.19!

MOTHER It is NOT ALLOWED to change SID number on MOTHER signalization;

DAUGHTER otherwise DAUGHTER will lose reference number from which it
SID numbers receives information data to show parameters.

Follow the steps:

STEP

1 Select CONFIG tab.

2 Press DISCOVER button.

The serial number and SID

number of MEDICAN alarm
should appear.

3 Select correct SID and serial

number.

4 We type in a new SID

number and press Set NEW
SID.

New SID will appear next to

serial number of MEDICAN
alarm.

5 Disconnect CAN-BUS cable and main power supply from supply connection board of MEDICAN.

IMPORTANTE NOTICE

DON’T CHANGE SID NUMBERS UNLESS IT IS NECESSARY

CLEARING
When we will make some configuration changes, language or other parameters changes,
powering ON and OFF alarm, CAN error… All those events MEDICAN alarm will log in
Logbook. User can erase all previous events in Logbook anytime.

STEP

1 Select CONFIG tab.

2 Press DISCOVER button.

The serial number and SID

number of MEDICAN alarm
should appear.

3 Select correct SID and serial

number.

4 Press CLEAR LOGBOOK

button.

5 Confirm clearing with OK.

6 Confirm with OK when finished.

7 Disconnect CAN-BUS cable and main power supply from supply connection board of MEDICAN.

IMPORTANTE NOTICE

After we cleared LOGBOOK or made other configuration changes we have to switch to next
menu on MEDICAN alarm - to refresh changes on alarm screen.
