SECTION – II (CHEMISTRY)
PART – A
1. D
Sol. The balanced reaction is HCl + NaOH →H2O +NaCl

The reaction consumes 100mmol of sodium hydroxide

2. B
Sol. No. of meq of Ba(OH)2 reacted = no. of meq. Of HCl
2M(25)=35(0.1) ; M=0.07
3. D
Sol. As we know that, Boyle’s law states at a constant temperature, the pressure of a gas is inversely
proportional to its volume.
so P1V1 = P2V2
1(5)=2v
4. B
RMS 3RT
Sol. = = 1.224
MP 2 RT
5. A
Sol. The root means square speed of particles is the square root over the sum of squares of the particle’s
speeds by a total number of particles. So by substituting,
32 + 42 + 52
rms = = 4.082 ms−1
3
6. C
Sol. M=0.042 = W/(60×0.05)
W = 0.042×60×0.05 = 0.126 g
Amount of acetic acid actually adsorbed = 0.180-0.126 = 54mg
Amount of charcoal available = 3 g
So amount of acetic acid adsorbed per gram of charcoal = 54mg×1g/3.0g = 18 mg
7. A
Sol. Boyle’s temperature TB = a/Rb
critical temperature Tc = 8a/27Rb. So the ratio is 8/27.
8. D
Sol. Normality = molarity × basicity (for acids)
Therefore, Normality = 0.3 × 2 = 0.6
The basicity of H3PO3 is 2 because one of the H is not replaceable in H 3PO3. The H atoms which are
linked to oxygen are replaceable, but the H atom linked directly to central atom P is non-replaceable.
9. A
Sol. n-factor for H2C2O4.2H2O = 2
Normality = 6.3 × 2000 / 126 × 250 = 0.4
equating no. of equivalents: N1V1 = N2V2
0.4 × 10 = V2 × 0.1
Volume (V2) = 40mL.
10. A
Sol. Oxidation is the loss of electrons during a reaction by a molecule. In the given equation, H 2SO3 is the
reducing agent because it undergoes oxidation.
Hence option (A) is the answer

2. 3
Sol. K2Cr2O7 + 7H2SO4 + 6KI → Cr2(SO4) + 3I2 + 7H2O + 4K2SO4
Cr get reduced from +6 Oxidation state to +3 oxidation state.
3. 7
Sol. CO2 (g) + C (s) → 2CO (g)
Total volume = 700 ml = 0.7 L
0.5-x+2x = 0.7 ;0.5+x = 0.7
x = .2L = 200 mL
CO2 (g) = 0.5-0.2 = 300ml
CO (g) = 2x = 400 mL
4. 8
Sol. The balanced equation is given below.
3Na2HAsO3 + NaBrO3 + 6HCl → NaBr + 3H3AsO4 + 6NaCl
The value of X, Y and Z are 3, 1 and 6 respectively.
5. 2
Sol. S8 + 48HNO3 → 8H2SO4 + 48NO2 + 16H2O
Mass of water=18X16 = 288 gram
Hence, 8(15x+6)=288 , x=2
6. 4
Sol. Vrms ∝ √T
V1/V2 = √(T1/T2) = 5×104/10×104
Squaring, we get
T1/T2 = 25/100 = ¼
T2 = 4T1
7. 6
Sol. The balanced equation is given below.
2MnO4–+ 5C2O42- + 16 H+ → 2Mn2+ + 10CO2+8H2O
The values of x, y and z are 2, 5 and 16, respectively.
8. 1
Sol. 10-3 molar MgSO4  10-3 molar of MgSO4 present in 1 L solutions.
n CaCO3 = nMgS O4

9. 6
Sol. Given that gaseous compound of nitrogen and hydrogen contains 12.5% (by mass) of Hydrogen.
Element Percentage Atomic ratio Simple ratio
H 12.5% 12.5/1 = 12.5 12.5/6.25 = 2
N 87.5% 87.5/14 = 6.25 6.25 / 6.25 = 1
Empirical formula = NH2
Empirical mass = 16
Molecular weight = 2× Vapour density = 2×16 = 32
So n = molecular mass / empirical mass = 32/16 = 2
Molecular formula = Empirical formula × n
= (NH2)×2
= N2H4
10. 8
Sol. Rate of diffusion α 1 / Molecular − weight
Let distance covered by X be ′d′ and distance covered by Y is ′24 − d′
Now,
rx / ry= d / 24 − d
⟹ d / 24 − d = √40 / 10
⟹ d = 16cm
Hence, 24-16=8
