1. What was the major argument raised by Senator. Jose P. Laurel and Senator. Claro M.

Recto in support of the passage bill of the Rizal Bill?

The two Senators, Jose P. Laurel and Claro M. Recto, aggressively advocated for the
passage of the Rizal Bill, believing that Rizal's novels and works should be studied and
read by all generations since they incorporate and transmit a strong sense of nationalism,
patriotism, and morality. Thus, if it became a part of the courses taught in schools, the
kids would not forget the value of patriotism. And, as citizens of our country, they will
see the necessity of contributing to and being a part of nation building for the good of our
country. Not only that, but it is also important to reinvigorate youth loyalty to the values
of liberty and nationalism for which our heroes fought and died.
2. What was the major argument raised by Senator. Francisco Rodrigo against the passage
of the Rizal Bill?
Senator Francisco Rodrigo stated his strong objections to the passing of the Rizal Bill,
claiming that Rizal's works, particularly Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, were
intended to publicly attack and ridicule the Catholic church. Senator Rodrigo was a
devoted Catholic with tight links to the CBCP, which led him to assume that Noli Me
Tangere and El Filibusterismo were anti-Catholic. Furthermore, it is evident that the
Senator's argument was adversarial since his interpretation of Rizal's work/s contradicts
the law's requirement that the church be separated from the state.

3. Are there points of convergence between the supporter and opposes of the Rizal law
based on this context? Explain your answers concisely.
