Quarter 2 – Module 3:
Central and Inscribed Angles
Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to
use this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress
while allowing them to manage their own learning at home.
Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and assist the learners as
they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

As a learner, you must learn to become responsible of your own
learning. Take time to read, understand, and perform the different
activities in the module.
As you go through the different activities of this module be
reminded of the following:
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any
part of the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the
exercises.
2. Don’t forget to answer Let Us Try before moving on to the other
activities.
3. Read the instructions carefully before doing each task.
4. Observe honesty and integrity in doing the tasks and checking
your answers.
5. Finish the task at hand before proceeding to the next.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are done.
If you encounter any difficulty in answering the tasks in this
module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator. Always
bear in mind that you are not alone. We hope that through this material,
you will experience meaningful learning and gain deep understanding
of the relevant competencies. You can do it!

ii
Let Us Learn

After going through this module, you are expected to:

➢ derives the relations among chords, arcs, central angles, and inscribed
angles inductively. (M10GE-IIc-1)
➢ proves theorems related to chords, arcs, central angles, and inscribed
angles. (M10GE-IIc-d-1).

Specifically, you will;

1. define chords, arcs, central and inscribed angles
2. determine the relationships between the central angle and the
intercepted arcs and the relationships between the inscribed angle and
its intercepted arc.
3. state theorems on chords, arcs, central and inscribed angles.
4. prove theorems related to chords, arcs, central and inscribed angles.
5. apply theorem in finding the measures of arcs, central and inscribed
angles.

Let Us Try

Select the best answer and write the letter that corresponds to your answer in your
answer sheet.

Let Us Study

Recall the terms related to a circle.

RADIUS – a line segment from the center of the circle to any point on a circle.
DIAMETER – the longest chord. A line segment whose endpoints lie on a circle
and pass through the center.
CHORD - a line segment whose endpoints lie on a circle.
ARC - a part of a circle
SEMI CIRLCE – one half of a circle
MINOR ARC – an arc that is less than a semicircle
MAJOR ARC - an arc that is greater than a semicircle.

2
Give the measure of the angle and the intercepted arcs of the given central
angles and provide the angle that intercepts the given arcs and its
measurement.
The measure of one whole circle is 360°, 4 diameters are drawn that divide the
circle into 8 congruent arcs. One revolution of an angle is 360°.

Guide Questions:
1. If the circle is divided into 8, what is the measure of each arc?
2. If the diameters were drawn divide equally the circle, what is the measure of
each angle?
3. How did you determine the intercepted arc of a given central angle?
4. How did you find the measure of each angle?
5. What is the measure of each congruent?
6. How did you determine the intercepted arcs of a given central?

CENTRAL ANGLES AND ARCS
Central Angle is an angle formed by two rays whose vertex is the center of the circle.
Each ray intersects the circle at a point, dividing it into arcs.
In the figure, ∠𝑇𝐼𝑁 is a central angle, and TN is
the intercepted arc. The degree measure of the
arc is the measure of the central angle which
intercepts the arc.
̂ = 80°, then 𝑚∠𝑇𝐼𝑁 = 80°

Let Us Enhance

1. Trace a circular object in a bond paper or use a circular protractor.

2. Divide the circle into 36 congruent arcs as shown next page.
3. Label the points on a circle as 10, 20, 30,…
4. Draw the following chords by connecting the following:
a. 10 to 20
b. 20 to 40
c. 30 to 60
d. 40 to 80
e. Continue using n to 2n
f. If the product exceeds 360, subtract 360
190 to 190(2) = 380; 380 − 360 = 20
190 to 20
g. 200 to 200(2) = 400; 400 − 360 = 40
200 to 40
5. Choose any two chords by writing letters, such that the chords will form an
inscribed angle. Find the measure of the inscribed angle.

Rubrics for Scoring:

20 points – The figure is drawn neatly, with no erasures, errors and with the
correct solution
18 points – Few errors in drawing the chords and with the correct solution.
15 points – Few errors in drawing the chords and no solution.
10 points – Numerous errors in drawing the chords and no solution
5 points – Unfinished drawing.
