Module 3 Lesson 10 Climate Change
Module 3 Lesson 10 Climate Change
Lesson 11:
Climate Change
Climate
The sum of all weather events that occur in a specific location over a period
of years. It is the area's average weather condition. Climate tells us what the
weather is typically like in the area where we live.
Weather
Climate change is a phrase that refers to the average long-term changes that
occur throughout the whole planet. These include warming temperature and
changes in precipitation patterns, as well as the consequences of Earth's
warming, such as:
• Rising sea levels
• Shrinking mountain glaciers
• Ice melting at a faster rate than usual in Greenland, Antarctica and the Arctic
• Changes in flower and plant blooming times.
The Earth's climate has been changing continuously for millennia, long before
humans arrived on the scene. However, scientists have recently discovered
some unexpected alterations. For example, during the last 150 years, the
Earth's average temperature has increased far faster than expected.
How Much Is Earth’s Climate Changing Right Now?
• As Earth’s climate continues to warm, the intensity and amount of rainfall during
storms such as hurricanes is expected to increase. Droughts and heat waves are
also expected to become more intense as the climate warms.

• Melting of glaciers will lead to higher sea level, which will cause
floods and put many low-elevation regions at risk of disappearing
under water.
• Melting of polar ice, polar bears and other animals are drowning.
