Suh Yoon then softly asked, “Have you heard the story of the 47
children in the book Don’t Eat the Marshmallow…Yet?” “You
mean the story of how the children had to repress their
desire to eat one marshmallow now in order to get more
marshmallows in the future?” “What do you think about it?”
“Well, the story of putting off things you want to do today for
the sake of a greater outcome tomorrow is common. I don’t
like it that much because it sounds like I have to just grin and
bear today in order to get rich tomorrow.” “Here’s the secret:
You don’t have to suppress what you want to do.
Marshmallows aren’t given out one per day.” I looked at Suh
Yoon, whose voice suddenly sounded low and determined.
She had a piercing energy in her eyes. “We have the power to
increase the number of marshmallows. If you can enjoy
today’s single marshmallow with appreciation, then you can
double the number tomorrow.” “Do you mean that success is
not necessarily about enduring?” Suh Yoon put on a sweet
smile. “Yes, and it won’t take long.”
