Learning Reflections of Thinking Skills

1. People have different thinking styles such as orderly, explorer, planner, and connector thinkers. Orderly thinkers focus on details while explorer thinkers see the big picture. We can train our minds to shift between thinking styles. 2. Core thinking skills include focusing, gathering information, organizing, analyzing, connecting, integrating, compiling, evaluating, and generating. These skills allow us to effectively process information. 3. Divergent thinking explores many possible solutions to generate creative ideas in a spontaneous, free-flowing way. Convergent thinking identifies a specific solution logically and accurately.

1. Everyone has different kind of dominant thinking style.

Some of the people's thinking style is go into

the detail. They are very good at identify spelling mistake in the reports, meticulous and concentrated.
They can be described as Orderly thinkers as this kind of person tend to handle situations or ideas singly
rather than multitasking. There are also a kind of person who always look at the concept and strategy,
they are called Explorer thinker. They can generate creative ideas and new ways of doing things. At
work and in life, they are able to see things from a larger perspective. Besides, Planner thinking is about
to design effective systems. Connector thinking is related to build and strengthen relationship. This
group of thinkers are driven by emotions. Also, they tend to make decisions based on their gut feel or

2. Core thinking skills are essential in our life. The first core thinking skill is focusing. As Tony Robbins
says, energy flows where attention goes. We must know what we are focusing and make sure we focus
on the right things. This is because in this modern life, we easily get distracted by smartphones and
gadgets. We should attend to selected pieces of information while ignoring other stimuli. Secondly,
gathering the information. We can bring to the conscious mind the relative information required for
cognitive processing. After we gathering the information, we must organize and arrange information so
it can be used more effectively. Moreover, there are higher order thinking (analysing, connecting,
integrating, compiling, evaluating and generating). Analyzing by examining parts and relationships so
that its organizational structure may be understood. Then, we bring and connect the information
together and produce a new system, phenomena. After that, we integrate information to better
understand the relationship between the information. Next, compiling parts together to form a whole
or building a structure from diverse elements. We evaluate our findings to present and defend opinions.
Lastly, generating new information, ideas, products, or ways of viewing things.

3. Divergent and Convergent thinking skills. Divergent thinking is the process of thinking explores many
kind of possible solutions in order to produce creative ideas. It refers to opening the mind in different
directions and trying out multiple solutions for a problem. Its characteristics are spontaneous, free –
flowing and non-linear. Although divergent thinking has the open options, a fully accurate answer isn’t
figure out.

On the other hand, convergent thinking is the process to identify a specific solution to any problem. This
thinking skill consists of recognizing the previously tried out techniques and reapply them along with the
readily information. It is a straight forward process and its characteristics involve speed, accuracy and
logic. The answer generate by convergent thinking is either completely right or 100% wrong.

4. Critical thinking is the analysis of an issue or situation and the facts, data or evidence related to it.
Critical thinking is considered a higher order thinking skills, such as observation, analysis, inference
problem solving, and communication. Observation are the starting point for critical thinking. This is the
ability to notice and estimate opportunities, difficulties and solutions. We can practice this skill by
journaling, mindfulness techniques or actively listening during work to examine what we have hearing or
seeing. Once a problem has been figured out, analysis skills become significant. Analysis skills included
gathering, understanding and interpreting of data and other information. Then, inference is a skill that
consist of making conclusions based on the information, personal knowledge and experience. For
instance, we must carefully consider all pieces of the puzzle together before drawing a decision.
Communication skills are essential when it comes time to discuss and explain issues and their possible
solution with others. The final step is to execute the solution. Problem-solving is the process of
collecting, analysing and communicating information to identify and settle solutions.

5. Creative thinking is the ability to consider something in a new way. It is our capacity to think outside
the box and convert existing ideas in a new combination. To develop creativity, our support systems will
be our resources. The resources (external resources) may be outside our body such our family, friends,
lecturers and mentors. Sometimes, the resources may come from ourselves (internal resources) such as
our ability to talk, think, feel and take action. Creativity may also need internal motivation. This
motivation is\ from within; our need or passion to be creative.
