1 Introduction
The DP Recorder program is used to record all log data in the DP system.
The Kongsberg product K-IMS also require the DP Recorder program to record in order
to show the DP system logs.
The DP Recorder sessions are default setup to be stopped 1 January 2020.
This procedure will describe how to re-enable the recorder session, by manually editing
the Session.ini file.

Note! Be aware that the recorder session might stop if it reaches the end time or if
it reaches the max session size.
If you start a new Recorder template session then you need to perform this
modification anew in the new recorder session folder.

Note! K-IMS: Need a working OPCDASERVER

Note! After the procedure is used: Inform Kongsberg Maritime, see Chapter: 7

Caution! This procedure can be used if/when the vessel operations

allows it.
This procedure will require modification of selected files
on the DP OS

4 DP OS
This is relevant for the K-Pos systems: DP OS, RMS OS, TC-OS

4.1 Windows Task Manager

The Windows explorer folder is hidden on a DP OS computer. To get access you need
to start up the Windows Task Manager, this can be done by pressing the 3 keys (at the
same time): "ctrl" "alt" "del", then choose Windows Task Manager.
Go to the menu: File --> New Task (Run...):

4.2 DP OS computers:
Locate the folder where the DP software is stored. This will be on the main hard drive
(C:\) on the system root. The DP software folder will have the folder name: DPxxxx,
where the "xxxxx" is the delivery number for your vessel.

Note! Example: DP Delivery number: "6712345", will be stored on the hard disk in
the folder:
C:\Dp6712345

Find the following two folders on your computer (Note: OPCDASERVER is only
relevant for KOGNIFAI / K-IMS):

4.2.1 Crd(System)
The Crd(System) folder is used by the DP OS computer to store recorder sessions files.
DP Class 1 & 2 vessels/rigs shall have only one active recording for the Main DP
system
DP Class 3 vessels/rigs shall have only one active recording for the Main DP system
and only one for the Backup DP system.

Caution! Every time the DP OS computer is restarted in year 2020

until the "session.ini" file is set to state RECORDING and
valid UTC end time date, the DP system will automatically
generate a new recorder session folder (under the
Crd(System) folder. Be sure that you do not start these
recorder sessions!! if you start to many recorder sessions
you will fill up the hard disk memory.

C:\dpxxxxx\Run\Config\DP\Os\DpRecorder\Sessions\Crd(System)\

4.2.2 OPCDASERVER
The OPCDASERVER folder is used to send data to the K-IMS
C:\dpxxxxx\Run\Config\DP\Os\DpRecorder\Sessions\OPCDASERVER\

4.2.3 DP OS folder example:

The picture below shows several recorder sessions folders
[/DPRecorder/Sessions/Crd(System)/ "many folders"]
that have been started on the DP OS computer, you should keep one recorder session
folder for the Main DP (have the folder name: "SystemMain())" and one for the Backup
DP (have the folder name: "SystemBackup()"), then delete the other folders.

4.4 Verify that the DP Recorder Sessions is

started on DP OS
Approximately 1 – 2 minutes after you have saved the modifications done to the
Session.ini file you should see that the system starts to record again.

Look inside the Crd(system) folder(s) where session.ini file was edited and verify that
there is a new recorder file that is started up.

This recorder file will have a file name that follows the following setup (Year month
day and time in UTC time zone):
yyyy-mm-dd HH-MM.SS-0.crd

When the recorder is recording correctly you can see that the filename "date field" will
show todays date, and you can see that this file is increasing in Size.

5 DP History Station

5.1 DP Recorder status

Find sessions stopped 1.1.2020
If you want to verify that the DP recorder is recording information on the DP History
station then open the DP Recorder window and go to the menu: Session, with submenu:
List Available

Figure 11. DP Recorder Status – Session menu

In this window “Session List” you can see all sessions with status message where it is
STOPPED. Make note of all Session ID stopped with End time at UTC 1.1.2020, as
these will have to started again. If K-IMS onboard, there might be a OPCDA session in
this list that also have to be started again.

5.2 Locate session folder on DP HS

Locate the DPRecorder folder, this is stored at the system root on either the Hard disk
drive: "C:\, D:\, E:\ or F:\"
For the following folder path change the hard disk drive letter with the one you have on
your computer:
Find the following two folders on your computer (Note: OPCDASERVER is only
relevant for KOGNIFAI / K-IMS):

5.2.1 CRD folder

The CRD folder is used to store all DP Recorder sessions files on the DP History station
E:\DPRecorder\Sessions\Crd\

Note! There might be recorder session folders in here that are stopped on purpose,
if that is the case then there is no need to set the session.ini file to status
recording for those folders.

5.2.2 OPCDASERVER
The OPCDAserver folder is used to send data to the K-IMS
E:\DPRecorder\Sessions\OPCDASERVER\

6 Verify that the OPCDASERVER

sends data to the K-IMS system
For vessels who have the K-IMS product. Verify that the K-IMS is receiving the log
data as normally after you have modified the Session.ini file in the OPCDASERVER
folder.
This can be done by using the trend tool/instrument, where you can as an example select
the Wind sensor, observe that the data is coming in and that the wind speed will change
over time.

Note! The OPCDASERVER will not show any recorder files, and you need to check
the external system to see if it is receiving the data, like example the K-IMS

7 Send verification to Kongsberg

After you have performed this procedure and verified that it is working as it should send
a mail to Kongsberg Maritime ([email protected]) where you verify
either by email text that the Session.ini is modified and recording is running or send a
picture of the Session folder that shows the latest recorder file.
