INTRODUCTION

100 Stories of Social and Safety Awareness is written and illustrated by

Makoto Shibutani. Makoto studied Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
in University of North Texas and illustration in California State
University, Long Beach. He is currently working with children and
adults as a behavior consultant in Los Angeles, California. He has used
his illustrated stories to teach children with autism spectrum disorder,
Asperger’s syndrome, Down syndrome and other related disorders about
social and safety awareness.

In this book, there are 50 stories of social awareness and 50 stories of

safety awareness. Each story has a related illustration so your child can
look at the picture while you are reading the story to your child. The
illustrated pictures are simple, clear and easy to comprehend for
children.
This book is formatted for the purpose of reading a digital book. It is
recommended that you carry the e-book device and when your child
encounters an actual learning situation, you read the story with your
child.

ABA study shows that people’s behavior is affected by the consequence

of their past events and it is essential that you give your child a positive
consequence such as praising, giving him/her a favorite candy/toy or
playing his/her favorite activity immediately after he/she demonstrates
appropriate behaviors in order to increase the occurrences of those
behaviors while using this book.
