ACADEMIC EXTENSION PROGRAM

Project Proposal by BADLIT

The name “Badlit” refers to the Bisayan Language and represents the Bisayan
culture in this Group

I. Title: ”Tanyag sa Paghatag”: Puhon para sa kinabukasan ng kabataan

The title was inspired by the Cebuano dialect. Tanyag means popular or known,
while paghatag means to be generous. Finally Puhon expresses hope. Like
hoping something will happen in the future.

II. Rationale:

Background
Streetism is a product of children finding a sense of belongingness because in
this age, kids are still trying to build their character and they try to find a
community that has the same values as them and in result they end up in the
streets just like other kids who have the same situation as them.It could also be
because they do not have a family at all or worse they are in a manipulative
relationship, in which their guardians are exploiting them for financial gain.

And the world is rapidly developing, reaching new technological heights, and
modernizing its ways, pollution is also simultaneously becoming omnipresent.
The twenty-first century has undergone significant technical advancements that
have improved people's living standards. However, this has come at a high cost,
as the materials produced are difficult to dispose of without causing
environmental damage. So managing our waste and ultimatiely lessening the
pollution for the country. It was agreeed upon that helping will happen through
recycling. Recyling was the best option to help mangae waste in the community.

Tanyag sa paghatag: Puhon para sa kinabukasan ng kabataan is a charity

project to raise environmental awareness and help children that are suffering
from the plight of neglect and poverty. This project is organized by a selected
group of students from De La Salle College Of Saint Benilde, Antipolo Campus.

This project was created with the aim of exploring the environmental awareness
of the young sector. This project will help raise money for charity to be donated to
the Children’s Garden Foundation of the Philippines in Antipolo City. And it will
also help promote environmental conservation within the community. This whole
activity aims to provide resources and support the cause of the Children's
Garden foundation, and also raise environmental awareness within the
community of Rizal. This group of students have come up with a solution that can
help promote environmental conservation and at the same time earn a generous
amount of money for donation. This will serve as a benefit for the Children’s
Garden Foundation and the community of Rizal in general.

By selling tote bags, it will promote environmental conservation and raise funds.
The tote bags would intentionally be designed with environmental awareness
graphics, but actually, the act of selling tote bags itself is a means to promote
environmental awareness, because it goes against the use of disposables, such
as plastics, but supports the use of reusables. This intentional use of the product
would help convince the market to be more environmentally responsible and also
become a means of advertisement to advocate environmental conservation
within the consumers.

Since this activity is selling, the income produced would then be donated to the
Children’s Garden Foundation, the chosen NGO that this group of students would
like to help support. The NGO focuses on providing love, shelter, education,
skills, mentorship, and a family living environment to former street boys.

Buying the tote bags would help this project, but donations are also encouraged.
It will be a wholesome feeling to know that you're a part of what makes every kid
at Children's Garden happy. It may seem insignificant, but when this project
happens, it will be a huge assistance to them and of course the environment.
This project is to promote how we should act for the wellbeing of the earth and
the act of fairness in life. This project will help the world to be a better place.

III. Objectives:

This project aims to be as environmental as possible through our proposal

with the tote bags which are reusable, strong and durable. If taken care of
and washed regularly they will last a long time as compared to plastic bags
which will surely last a lot longer but is a major factor in the negative effects
in our environment. Through its decomposition and the toxic substances
released into the soil when plastic burns under sunlight or through an
incinerator when garbage is burned.

The objective is to raise awareness for the environment and to raise money
for the children who are in need by giving our people a choice. Whether to
stick to harmful materials such as plastic or purchasing an eco-friendly bag
which also helps a cause by funding thousands of children for food, shelter
& education.

Offering an eco-friendly option to our people such as tote bags can go a

long way into helping them realize that plastics will ruin the environment.
Raising awareness as a group can influence other people such as
students, parents to be more concerned with the environment. The
awareness campaign should also influence Non-Governmental
Organization (NGO’s) and Governmental Orgs alike to maximize our
effectiveness on preserving our environment as a community.

Tote bags are a start. The more people are aware of this issue, the more
solutions we will have as a community to combat this pollution.

Balancing the technical and practical knowledge to promote a new kind of

understanding when it comes to environmental awareness and the
decision-making skills of people towards the environment around them.

- Making the difference between textbook and real-life

practices clear to the public and the youth when it comes
to the protection of the environment as well as to further
maximize the youth’s decisions in saying a resounding
yes to reusables and a firm no to the use of plastics in
every-day life.

To promote creativity alongside environmental awareness in order to

influence the youth in all sectors of society to start fresh and break away
from old habits from the past.

- Since the design of each tote bag will be made

personally by the group, it can allow the group the
chance to show the public their own innate creativity
which could influence potential prospects particularly the
youth, in purchasing their tote bags so that little by little
everyone can start making a change in society. The
creativity of the tote bags can also serve as a symbol of
the beginning of a side for society as a whole which is
committed to making a change for the better.

Increasing people's environmental awareness to prepare them for the

inevitable future environmental problems they might encounter.
- Educating the public about the fundamentals of
ecological sustainability is vital as all people are
responsible for taking care of the planet. Learning to be
part of the change will help people appreciate the
necessity of environmental awareness in these
conditions.

Establishing an environmentally conscious community to persuade other

youth and society members to possibly revive the withering environment
due to unfortunate circumstances.

- Both the environment and the economy have suffered

greatly, due mostly to the pandemic. The objective of this
project is to create uplifting communities that will
revitalize the environment through wise environmental
choices. Because people's actions affect the
environment, providing people with ecological knowledge
could help the economy and environment grow in the
best possible ways. And what better way to start with the
people who have the most potential and opportunity to
make a change.

VII. Expected Output/Outcome

We, the proponents of this project, look forward to touching the

children's lives by bringing them new hope, with the means of Tanyag sa
Paghatag through the funds that we collected. At the same time we want to
raise environmental awareness and environmental conservation because
we all know that our planet is already at its declining stage and well on its
way to reaching its limit and we as a group want to contribute as best as we
can to lessen that decline before the damage becomes irreversible.
Moreover, we seek support from the La Sallian and Benildean Community.
We expect that we can follow the outline that we’ve given and by the last
week of our project, we have already accumulated the expected amount
that we will donate to Children’s Garden. Also, there may be some
challenges throughout the project because of the current situation we are
still in but despite all of it we will do our best to prepare and adjust. We will
try to be as intentional as possible because this project is not only for
compliance but a way for us to give back to our community and help make
a difference.
