Getting Started
Before installation be sure to complete these 6 steps:
1. Read the VeriSeries Operations Manual and Installation Guide (Documents included on the CD).
2. Read the MVXX Release Notes and VeriAdmin Release Notes on the CD for the most recent updates.
3. Install the VeriAdmin Software (included on CD) on a PC/Laptop running Windows 2000, or XP, to initially set up
the VeriSeries reader. You can install the VeriAdmin software on your computer by inserting the CD in to the
CD-ROM drive. The Installation dialog will pop-up shortly thereafter with system installation instructions.
4. On the same PC/Laptop, install the driver for the Serial-to-USB converter (included on the CD). This driver is
included in a separate folder on the CD (see Installation Guide for more information).
5. Configure VeriSeries readers with correct baud rate, unique Network IDs, etc. (see Setting Up the VeriSeries
Reader section below).
6. Become familiar with VeriSeries reader operations and enrolling users using the VeriAdmin software.

NOTE 1: CAUTION: The silicon sensor used in the VeriSeries product line is an electro-static sensitive device. Pin 15
on the pigtail must be connected to an Earth Ground for reliable operation. Installing a reader without proper grounding
will void the warranty. Refer to the Installation Manual for specific information.
NOTE 2: The VeriSeries reader is shipped with its main communication port (on the pigtail) set for RS-485 connection
with a baud rate of 9600 bits per second. The VeriSeries is shipped with its AUX communication port (USB connection
on the bottom) set to a baud rate of 57600 bits per second (baud).

Setting Up the VeriSeries Reader

‰ Apply power to the VeriSeries reader through the pigtail: connect DC power (9-24 V) to the red wire, and the power
return (power ground) to the black wire. Note: Wire colors have previously been changed. See VeriSeries Pigtail
Connections table below for wire colors.
‰ Connect the programming cable to the USB Aux port at the bottom of the reader after opening with Security hex
key.

‰ Run / Open the VeriAdmin software on your PC. Configure the software for the correct PC COMM Port and set the
baud rate to 57600. From this software you will be able to change communications parameters, assign a network
ID, enroll or delete templates, and store/transfer templates on the PC or from reader to reader.
‰ Please refer to the VeriSeries Operations Manual for complete user instructions.
